Post-radiation lumps and nipple discharge

I finished radiation in early May. I expected some additional scar tissue in the surgical and radiation areas, but over the past 2-3 weeks, I have noticed that a particular lump in the surgery (not scar) area is growing and is very hard. It’s big and hard enough that when I roll on my Side at night, the pressure on the area wakes a me up. Also, my nipple is now leaving a slight residue (yellow / greenish) behind in my bras and my breast is slightly tender.

Also, my Left underarm is somewhat tender (but no lumps). This has also been going on for the past couple of weeks.

Have others had similar experiences? I’m trying not to worry because my BS said that there would be scar tissue, but In the back of my mind I can’t help but worry that it’s more cancer.

If I were in your shoes I would call the BS first thing this morning and try to get in before the weekend. Make sure you don't have an infection.

AMLMom -> No matter what is the reason for the issues you are expriencing, IMO it's best to let your team know what is going on, how long it's been going on, and whether you should be seen sooner than later. The odds are good that's it's Fibrosis developing after RADs but better to be safe than sorry as the saying goes. I had alot of SEs from Rads, during and after, it ended in Oct, developing both LE of the breast and Fibrosis. What you describe about the hard lumps "sounds" like what my L breast feels like in alot of places due to the Fibrosis. They changed during and for MONTHS after RADs ended. In fact, my nipple and my breast tissue is still trying to figure out "what it is" now. Some days sticky, oily, dry, peeling, etc. It's a long process for some people. However, that being said, I'm no doctor so speak to your team and come up with a plan to figure out what comes next. I know feeling new lumps and such is stressful! I was panicked nearly every week about new spots and thankfully when I'd see my cancer rehab PT each week for therapy, she'd confirm that this is to be expected and so on. Hang in there and keep us posted.

thank you both so much. Unfortunately I’m overseas at the moment, so follow up with my BS will have to wait until next week. It’s just helpful to know that others experienced something similar and that this COULD be normal.

My doctors tend to play everything down and make me feel like a crazy lady if I ask questions or worry, (a whole other issue), so I try to minimize my questions, but it sounds like a call to the doctor or nurse is warranted.

Thank you again, I will keep you posted
