I've been on it for four years next month-- one more year to go-- July 2020-- and I'm counting the minutes. I haven't had bad side effects, but they have been noticeable. Constant hot flashes at first, just wave after wave. I didn't have any hot flashes when I went through menopause in 1999. Now either I'm not having as many, or I'm used to them. Or, the temp is already in the low 100s here.

I've had various joint/muscle aches, but I don't know if they're due to Arimidex or not. Right now my right arm is very painful, but that might be mouse use. My sleep is total crap-- averages about four hours. I do nap a lot. My oncologist's nurse just blows off my SE questions, as if to validate me might discredit them. Whatever.

For those who have gone off the AIs, how long before SEs go away... if ever?

I took a three month break last Fall and was hoping to see a decrease in my side effects, which are mostly joint pains. Didn't happen. So I went back on anastrazole in January.

I just had a visit with an orthopedist for the pain in my knee which pretty much keeps me from walking any distance that would be considered exercise (around the house or grocery store is about all I can do). He says its severe osteoarthritis, and there's nothing really they can do at this stage. I am chalking it up to growing old, which as a breast cancer survivor isn't a bad thing.

It can take quite a while. I have been off for 3 years and still have some joint pain at night but it is so much better.
