Is there specific marker tests that can be done to show nets in the body? I had some bloodwork down because of low grave fever and waiting for results from my primary but wondering if the CBC is normal could I the cancer have spread and not shoe in bloodcounts? What markers would they want to look at? My doc is very laid back about the low grade fever for two weeks now and says I should go to primary for the checkup and it’s not mets. Now does she really know that? So frustrated and scared this C has come back

    Scaredashell07,

There are such things as tumor markers, though I do not know the proper medical name for them. Not all docs do tumor markers, even at stage IV, because they are not reliable for everyone. The unfortunate situation with mets is that they can be growing at undetectable levels and no test or imaging can find it until it’s grown to a detectable level. I know this is not allaying your fears, but mets are something for which there is no early dx. You should, of course, be aware of any changes/pain in your body and should you experience this, please call your mo.

But here is what I really want you to take away. None of us has a crystal ball. Constant worry (some worry is normal for most of us) about something you don’t have control over robs you of life today. Understand what the realities of bc are, but know that your chances of not metastasizing are good! So, don’t worry about tumor markers, and give bc the finger by living life well.

For the record, my mo does not do tumor markers. I have lived with mets for eight years. I find that too much testing is very stressful for me, unless I am having symptoms. All the best to you
