Have not gotten period after radiation
Hi all. I just finished 16 treatments of radiation. I received the same amount as if I completed 32 in a shorter duration. Overall I have fared well. I experienced fatigue and some skin color changes and of course some discomfort. After diagnosis I stopped taking birth control pills and had two normal periods which arrived in a timely manner. Since I am 49 I was impressed by how normal they were. I think I may be peri-menopausal And thought they would be more erratic. Since I have completed radiation I have not had a period and am about 8 days late. I have not started The tamoxifen yet. When I looked at the side effects I did not see this one listed. I know my body is trying to repair itself so maybe that’s it. Has anyone else had this happen

I had the opposite thing happen and I got a period while doing radiation (just finished today). I hadn't had a period in 3 months. I was taking a progestin mediation for 7 years for endometriosis and didn't have a period during that time. After my dx of BC, my BS told me to stop taking it and I had one period about two months after that and then nothing for almost 3 months. So I really thought I was heading towards menopause (I'm 53, almost 54). But bam, just got another period. It's weird though - very heavy and totally pain-free (like the previous one). No cramps at all.
This is disappointing to me as I'd rather just have natural menopause as I can't take tamoxifen (due to the endometriosis), so I'd have to do lupron with an AI instead.
I think stress can cause you not to have a period (OR to cause you to have a period).

I had chemo first, then surgery, then radiation ... finished all treatments in April. Had my period during my very first chemo treatment and never saw it again. Now, after several weeks of non-stop menstrual cramps, my period has come on with a 9-month vengeance!!

Congrats on finishing your radiation! My periods were late when I first started Tamoxifen. But, if you have any reason to think it might be possible, you may want to take a pregnancy test. . .just in case. Best wishes!

Thank you all! I think I just have to expect the unexpected. Everyone’s experience is so different. Thank goodness I am definitely not pregnant. I don’t seem to be having any PMS which is odd. I noticed today that the “burn” under my arm is still very red. The radiation oncologist said this is normal. Luckily I don’t have much pain. Thanks again it’s comforting to know it’s all normal.
