I was first diagnosed with cancer 9 years ago and have been doing well. Today I went in for a routine mammogram and there was a white spot in the area where the original cancer was. I’m trying not to freak out and trying not to play amateur radiologist but this has me very anxious. I’ve never seen anything like this on earlier mammograms. Because it’s a screening only I have to wait for someone to read it. Feeling very, very anxious

changes--you've been through the drill before. Try to distract yourself while waiting for information. Focus on the fact that it's most likely benign. If and when you get bad news, it was caught early, and locally, and you'll be okay.

The surgical site will show scarring and very often benign calcifications associated with post op fat necrosis, both of which are white and easily recognized. No reason to panic yet.

thanks! I haven’t really been scared before by mammograms. I’m figuring it’s a good sign that no one has called me yet

Thanks! It’s never looked quite like this before but I know I shouldn’t play amateur radiologist
