edited June 2019 in Just Diagnosed

Hi - I'm new here and I'm feeling pretty anxious.

After mammo on 5/8 and biopsy on 5/16, I was diagnosed on 5/22 with stage 2a, grade 2, 2cm tumor, and at least 2 nodes affected (I used to like the number 2, but not so much anymore!)

On 5/24, my MO went over the treatment plan of neoadjuvant AC-T, followed by lumpectomy, radiation and endocrine therapy. At my 5/31 teach session, I found out that my first chemo was scheduled for 6/7, after having had the CT, bone scan, port placement, echo, MRI and second opinion consult all between 5/30 and 6/5. I thought I was going to lose my mind with how fast everything was moving. I decided I wanted oncotype and genetic tests, too. I asked the MO to postpone the chemo for a while until I got more information. AND I needed a mental health break.

There were some areas of concern on the MRI, so I had another ultrasound on on 6/11. The radiologist believes there are 2 more cancerous lesions - I think they are in the same quadrant as the main tumor. My surgeon is on vacation this week, so I won't see her until Monday. I suppose I'm in for another biopsy. If positive, then I evidently have multifocal BC. Don't really know what the implications of that are.

The crazy schedule of the first couple of weeks were so hard, and now the waiting is so hard - waiting for more biopsies, waiting for oncotype, and waiting on genetic results. I want to know what exactly is going on and what the treatment plan is. There are some things happening this summer that I'm trying to plan around, and it's so hard to have no idea what's ahead.

Plus, I feel totally fine physically now and want to be there for my kids before facing chemo and surgery, but I'm having a hard time because of the mental, emotional and time toll all of this is taking.

Glad I can vent here and be understood.

I totally understand the feeling. I was diagnosed about the same time as you were. It's like a big machine is in motion and you're swept up in it and told go here, go there, now do this, and we're going to poke you here and there for this and that. It can be very overwhelming. Hang in there!

It was so strange to me too, to be feeling physically completely healthy while knowing that I had cancer in me that needed medical treatment.

I'm glad you're being thoughtful and assertive about your needs.

I don't know so much about multifocal bc. From what I've read on here, I think it might make a mastectomy a more likely recommendation (depending on what they find and where it is located) and potentially they could do oncotype tests on the other tumors as well. I think they usually 'rely' on the result from the highest oncotype score.

Good luck with *everything*. I think this early time in breast cancer sort of felt unreal. Like, time outside of time or something.

It's fantastic that you asked for what you needed re starting everything so fast. You're right, the mental/emotional aspect of this dx takes a big toll. I echo Ingerp with the gentle hugs.

Thank you all for your words of understanding and encouragement! I got to meet two women in my church this weekend, breast cancer survivors, one is almost 5 years out and the other 13 years. It was so helpful and reassuring to know that they'll be there for me whenever I need them.
