medical anxieties... no my grandmother had breast cancer twice (passed away the second time) and my aunt and sister both have had a mass removed (theirs were benign) I’m just hoping mine is benign as well, but with the dimple and minor swelling under my arm makes it difficult. I keep feeling the mass (which I know I need to stop doing) just 2 more days until my biopsy and hopefully I can at least get some answers about the dimple and swelling under my arm. I’m planning on Netflix/Hulu binge watching until I get my biopsy results.

With a family history of breast issues, your doctor may order a genetic test to see if a breast cancer gene runs in your family. If it does, there is a protocol that is followed and monitoring that happens. The more you touch that mass, the more friction that occurs which could produce bruising and swelling. No matter how many times you probe at "the thing", you are not going to have any answers. I would start that Netflix binge now. I watch alot of European programming, so I have a blast on there.

I probably will. I’m actually cleaning my house today and doing some laundry. So that should help get my mind off of things.

I don't know if Pagets show up on mamos or ultra sound.....I am kind of dumb with all of this information. I had a stroke in 2006 and so my rememberer doesn't always allow me the convenience of going to the memory bank! lol Ya, know....I don't think it is because my skin is not itchy or flakey or oozing. Years ago, in 1969after I had my first baby...and for years and years I had green oozing from that breast! When I went to see the doc he said, not to worry....I did worry a bit but since the doc wouldn't do anything about it...well, you get the picture.

Good luck on Tueday...I will be thinking and praying for you.

Sam, regarding the biopsy, you'll see each of us have slightly different experiences, depending on where they're biopsying and who's doing it. I really lucked out ... my doctor was quite good at doing it and I didn't even feel the needle with the numbing agent, nor did I have any bruising. I'd expected lots of bruising since I'm hemophiliac and my blood has trouble clotting. But they compressed it for longer after the procedure to make sure it had stopped bleeding. So that might have helped. Everyone has a slightly different experience, hopefully yours will be minimal side effects.

One thing I do highly recommend is that although you *can* drive yourself there and back, take a friend who drives you. We went out for lunch afterwards, and even though I wasn't really in the mood to eat, it did help my mental state a lot.

Is there such a thing as a mammo guided biopsy?

Schweety, yes, it's called a stereotactic biopsy.

Hi, I was first diagnosed w ILC, 1.6 cm by a mammogram. .After a breast MRI, they found IDC .9 cm. I decided to have a mastectomy. After I received the pathology after surgery, I was told they had found a 3mm and a 5mm IDCthat had not shown up on 2 mammograms, ultrasound, or breast MRI. If I hadn't done the mastectomy, I'd have been starting again w a new breast cancer a year or 2 later, or whenever it was discovered.

Hi Beeise.... it is supposed to be a hollow needle core biopsy. I have had a few stereotactic biopsies before but this would be on a mass.

Schweety, it's the same thing. A "core needle" is a hollow needle. Stereotactic biopsies are done using either a core needle or a vacuum-assist needle. Stereotactic biopsies are done on masses. Did you read the link I provided in my previous note? It's all explained here.

When I had stereotactic biopsies they were not done with a hollow needle, they were done with something with a hook on the end. hmm I am confused then....I had my first one done in 2000 then again in 2003 then 2005 and I believe or thought they were done with a hook type device. The one I had yesterday was a hollow needle core and was ultra sound guided....although I was told it was going to be mammo guided. I am scared as this time I will be looking at mx or double mx and IF it is cancer again and this is screwing with my head bad.
