Is it possible I have IBC at 19?
Hi everyone. I am 19 with a family history of breast cancer in which relatives and grandmother were diagnosed under 40 yrs old. The past two weeks my right breast has been progressively changing- fast. I did a self breast exam two weeks ago, noticed a firm hard mass on my right breast and noticed that it looked different from the left (it was lower than the other, indented on the side and getting bigger). Above the breast and the top of the breast there is swelling that extends to my armpit and neck. This is a week after my period. I went to my PCP, she did a breast exam and felt hard, firm masses in my right breast compared to the left and sent me for an ultrasound right away. the ultrasound came out clear - no lumps, but I have dense breasts. Within days the pain is getting worse, almost like a heavy shooting pain that going deep in the breast to my nipple, as well as in my armpit. There is a dull heavy ache constantly at the top of my right breast and in my right arm. The veins are EXTREMELY visible on that side now, I can see every single vein that extends from above my collarbone/shoulder to my nipple, whereas the left side the veins are barely visible. The discoloration is also getting worse, it looks like its bruising and darkening in the area from under my collarbone to the middle of my right breast. there is also a purple streak across the breast and today I've noticed its getting more red(red blotchiness across breast, with tiny little dimpling). The nipple also looks strange, its constantly swollen and flattening, as if its getting wider but flatter and puffy. I know 19 is a young age, but I have never experienced this before and the swelling, discoloration and pain is worsening by the day. even my jaw on the right side is swollen now. I see my PCP again on Tuesday and I hope she schedules an MRI, because I heard that ultrasounds do not always pick up everything. The doctors also ruled out infection, so my only thought right now is possible IBC.I know IBC causes itchiness, and I do remember itching my breast all the time a couple months back, but as of right now I just feel itchy all over my body. Meanwhile, the radiologist who did the ultrasound said nothing is wrong and that its probably just hormonal changes, but I know my body and this isnt right. Especially since it is worsening and is only on one side. ANY input is appreciated.

Hello, welcome to the forum. I firstly just want to say I'm so sorry you're going through this, I'm 23 and currently going through the same thing my symptoms are progressing and I'm in so much pain, I have posts if you'd like to read, I've been having very similar symptoms, so if you need to talk feel free to message me, there's plenty things your symptoms could be, I know it's hard not to jump to IBC I've done the same thing myself now and I'm petrified, but there are other things it could be, as scary as it is. Please be sure to push as much as possible to get the tests you want, I've been trying for months to get an MRI and still nothing, i feel so let down, but it won't stop me, we know when somethings up with our body, it's just finding someone that's listens but I pray you get better results with that, I know it's so scary but you have support here. Sending my love and hoping for good results for you.

Good grief both of you ladies are too young to be dealing with what could be BC but please do persist in getting it checked out. Don’t take NO for an answer. You know your bodies and you know more than anyone else that something is wrong.
I hope it’s not BC but if it is it’s treatable.
Keep us posted.

I know, no one deserves to have to deal with it
breaks my heart it really does. I’m scared for my life, I’ve been dealing with it for 8/9 months now, so I’m going to be scared if it is the worst because it’s been left so long and I know it needs aggressive treatment ASAP
my life has fallen apart as of right now I’m bed bound because of the pain, it’s shattering. I’m praying oliviia gets the best outcome and it’s something that isn’t serious x

If you check out the many, many other threads on the topic of fear of IBC, you will learn that it needs a punch biopsy to diagnose it. I think IBC and Pagets are the two that need punch biopsies.

Post your imaging reports when you get them.
If your symptoms turn out to be IBC contact me by Private Message and we'll publish a case report.

I don't know what you have there, but i would be EXTREMELY SURPRISED if this is breast cancer. You have about the same chance of winning a flying goat farm.
-
What was the result??
-
Since she never posted again, I'd guess the result was not IBC.
-
I want to hear more about this flying goat farm.
-
Me too.
I wonder if they have flying pigs too, or if they specialize only in flying goats. Admittedly, flying goats are more rare.

I have thought that BCO should start having retreats, maybe this could be the first location!

What fun that would be!

I’m in!
