Is This MBC Prognosis Too Optimistic?

My wife was diagnosed with ER+, PR+, HER-2- MBC in the lungs -- multiple tumors to 17mm. She has no other symptoms and her bone and body scans were negative as were her tumor marker blood test and liver enzymes. We met her MO today who prescribed Letrozole and Palbociclib. The MO seemed very confident that the Letrozole would "treat" the MBC and that she could live 10 years plus if her body responds. This is very much more statistically optimistic than what I've found in my research (although certainly possible). The MO indicated that even if her body doesn't respond well to Letrozole, there were other hormones to try to shrink the tumors. I don't want to be Debbie-Downer here, and frankly, I was quite relieved at this prognosis, but I think we both need to prepared if this prognosis is overly optimistic.

I'm encouraging my wife to get a second opinion, but she's not sure she wants to do that.

It is on the optimistic side but also very possible. If your wife’s overall health is good and she does respond well to treatment, then keep hope alive. The ER+/HER2- subtype has good odds and currently the IV average survival length has been increased from 3 years to 5. My advice is to stay grounded in reality but never let go of what’s possible 😀

Sounds like she is getting the treatment that is promising, hope she is NED soon.
