lump found.....

I am 48 and have a weak history of BC (my maternal grandmother died of it when she was in her early 40s).My last annual 3d mammo in late October was normal although I have very dense breasts which make it difficult. I found a sizeable lump this weekend in my left breast, to the left and above the areola area. No pain at all with it and it is somewhat mobile.

I waited all day to see my doctor because she wouldn't just send me for the diagnostic u/s and mammo before seeing me and feeling it for herself. She told me my breasts are very dense...which I already knew and why I usually fight for an u/s in addition to the annual mammo...except this year I didn't fight for it. Found the lump right away and thinks it is probably a good sign that it is bigger (I don't know the exact size, maybe 2-3 cm) and more mobile (although I know this isn't always true). Radiology couldn't fit me in today so I have to go in tomorrow afternoon for the ultrasound and mammo...I know that I'm lucky that I don't have to wait a week or two but I'm still aggravated anyway to have waited all day to just see her and have her confirm what I already knew was there.

Anyway...just needed to vent this. I'm not particularly nervous (at least I don't think I am!) as I know it's far more likely to be nothing than something. I was just hoping to get the test part done today as well. The fact that my doctor was on the phone trying to get me seen today and that they fit me in tomorrow is probably a little worrisome??? Wondering what other people felt when finding a lump.

Of all the stories I have read on this forum, this is probably the fastest anyone has gotten to see their doc (same day) and have their imaging the next. Your doc was doing her "due diligence" by examining you before ordering your imaging.

Let us know what the studies show.

Thank you. I do realize they are moving quick...it's just I've gone to her for years and that knowing my history of denseness and that I typically ask for an u/s but didn't this year, I assumed that she would have put the order through to radiology (which is in the same building). Her PA that I saw at my annual exam said that would be the case if I ever found something. My frustration likely also stems from the fact that I can NEVER get in to see her...not even when I had shingles or the flu over the 7 years, so that she got me in same day yesterday was good but baffling.

I think that fact plus that she was on the phone with radiology to get me in asap while I waited in the exam room (vs. my calling them or them calling me) might mean she is more concerned than she let on. She told me that because my lump was fairly large and somewhat mobile that it was probably a good thing...maybe a clogged duct or something. I don't know why that would happen at 48 but our bodies can be weird for certain.

I am trying to convince myself that it's nothing. I'm succeeding a little bit less at that this morning.
