Complex ovarian cyst - should I be concerned?

Hello: I'm wondering if anyone has had a complex ovarian cyst with words in the ultrasound report to describe your complex cyst like 'mural nodules' and 'internal septation'and 'thickened modularity'? If so did you wait a bit to have surgery or take it out?

My ovary appears to be normal other than: I have two cysts on same side. complex cyst lesion as they are calling it is the first cyst. measures 2.4x1.4x1.7cm. Second cyst lateral to the last cyst 2.8x1.8x1.9 cm has subtle nodules along the wall

No free fluid

I’ve had cysts before that have resolved. But my gyn was concerned enough to send me for an opinion from gyn oncologist. The oncologist of course wanted to take it out. She said she couldn’t tell for sure if it was cancer til it’s out. She said it looked probably benign but may be borderline. Ugh. How is a PT supposed to make a decision!? I’m not going to have ovary out if it’s just benign!

I had three ca125 tests 17,23,19. So I asked if we could wait since blood test had come down and ultrasound showed it still there but had not grown? She said yes we could wait til aug but if it’s still there I’m pretty sure she’s going to push me to have surgery.

Has anyone had a similar situation? Just curious what you all have done.

    Hi - Yes, before BC I had a complex ovarian cyst but did not get the details like you have. My ob just said it had characteristics of cancer and we would watch it for 8 weeks and repeat the US. Needless to say, it was a tough 8 week hell. Right at week 8 I had the US and the thing had completely resolved. I guess it was good practice for my current mess.     I am hoping that’s the case. My initial ultrasound was in end of Jan I think. Then another in March. It hadn’t resolved. But hadn’t gotten really bigger either. So now if it’s not gone in Aug and hasn’t grown I have to figure out what to do. I just am close to menopause. Id prefer not to have it out.

    I had a dermoid and those are rarely cancer but can become cancerous, so mine was taken out and thankful it was b-9. My gyn was able to move it around so she was confidant that is what it was. My ca-125 at the time was 5. I was 37...eons ago.

    My twin had a huge mass in her pelvis and they were not sure where it originated because it was that big. Her ca-125 came back 32. They did a radical hysterectomy (ovaries, uterus, cervix) and everything was b-9.

    Not sure either of these situations is similar to yours but thought I would at least share that scary stuff can turn out ok. May it be so for you.

    Thank you Wallycat for sharing your experience and your twins experience! That is wonderful both of the cancers were benign! I am hoping that is the case for me and that it won't be anything to worry about. The onco doctor just sorta was concerned. So we will see later this summer when I have another ultrasound if it is still there. If it is, I am trying to figure out what to do about it. If it hasn't grown I would assume it is benign.....actually my hope is that it will be gone! =)
