finally am scheduled for biospsy of L5 next week. of course it's the bone with the most cancer and the most pain. they are giving me anesthesia which is good. but my question is how is the recovery? is there a lot of pain (on top of the already present cancer pain). will i be able to get up and walk around comfortably by the next day or will there be a lot of soreness?

thanks all.

    Hello,

I had a bone biopsy to L5 4 years ago and as the vertebrae had also partially collapsed they filled it with cement. A procedure called Vertebroplasty. I was up walking ( stiffly) the nex day, so don't worry you will be fine.

I had a bone biopsy in L1 when I was first diagnosed. They also tried to get a sample from a hip bone, but they had some issue and could not get one. The hip was sore afterward but the spine didn't bother me at all. I felt fine afterward. They wanted to give me a wheel chair to leave the hospital but I refused. I wanted to walk. They told me I could take Tylenol if I had pain. I did take it a few times for the hip ache. But not really a big deal. I've had menstrual cramps that were much worse than that hip ache after the biopsy. (Hooray for menopause!)

I had a bone biopsy 4 years ago from my sacrum. I was terrified. I remember being awake and them giving me medicine in my IV and nothing else. No pain at all. They did make me stay for about 4 hours afterwards to monitor me for any bleeding. No bleeding. No pain or problems after.

I had a bone biopsy at L5 in April. I was just tired from the stress/anxiety for a day but I didn't have any pain.
