edited June 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

Hi all

I went in for a lump in my right breast and mammogram cleared that as benign cyst but picked up linear punctate calcifications in my left breast. Mammogram listed it as BI-RAD 4 “suspicious, likelihood of malingnancy”

I am waiting for my biopsy (not very patiently!) scheduled for June 5th.

From everything I read my age, linear, and punctate are all bad signs. Everyone has calcifications as they age but I’m only 36?

I’m filling my time with getting as well versed on everything BC I can because knowledge is power right....

But most info I’m getting is over 50 and passed menopause. I’m finding it hard to find solid info on %s diagnosed with my finding under 40 and treatment especially if hormones are in the mix if I haven’t gone through menopause

Maybe everything will come back benign so I won’t have to worry but if anyone has any helpful info or experience I’d be interested.

Thank you!

Just stopping by to tell you that waiting is so very much the hardest part. It's brutal. My fingers, toes, eyes even, are crossed for you that the biopsy results will come back benign.

I had just turned 41 this past year when I was diagnosed. It's scary times, and like you mentioned, harder to find info on women in the younger category and premeno.

Here is a article I found during my own search in the beginning days, seems to have good info....maybe it will help you as you wait. IDK. But, IMO, knowledge is power. The more you know, the more tools in your belt, if they are needed.

Also this info helped me understand my reports better:

I was 37 when diagnosed two years ago. Only calcifications. No lump. First mammogram caught it, ultrasound showed it as well and biopsy confirmed DCIS. The waiting is brutal And really is the worst part. You somehow get through it. Keep yourself busy... easier said than done, I know. And stay off of the internet!!! Wishing you all the best and feel free to contact me.

You're very welcome. Keep us posted on how things go.

Oh also, not sure if you would want another set of eyes on your mammo US report and/or biopsy results when you get them, but there is a radiologist named DJMammo that posts here and he seems to be of help to many. I know I've learned alot from following that thread.

The thread "Interpreting Your Report" is here if you are interested:

I can SO sympathize with you on the waiting! It CAN be brutal! I had to wait 3 weeks from the mammo to biopsy. Mine had to be done surgically because it was close to a blood supply I researched a LOT too... Still am! Results today.... Finally

Will be thinking about you in the days to come!

I am right there with you!!I’m 44. I had a core biopsy on Tuesday and am waiting on results and having an extremely hard time focusing on anything. The follow up Mammo said I had a cluster of amorphous calcifications that were 2 mm about 2cm from my nipple. BiRad of 4a/b. I have been lurking here pretty non stop for the past week. This is basically taking over my life.

    Hi AKbtrfly,

Sorry you are going through this, and yes, waiting can never be easy...

I am 39, and I just had my right mastectomy for extensive DCIS which looked like a huge linear calcification on mammogram. I wish my mammogram was done sooner and who knows, maybe back then I could save my breast? I know it might not sound too optimistic right now, but in the end the good thing is that you did the mammogram! Good luck, and hopefully it's nothing.

    Thank you so much everyone!

I had to go in for another mammogram and ultrasound today. Since the first one wasn’t done at the breast center/hospital were biopsy or any additional procedures will happen.

Basically same thing right breast has benign cysts no reason to follow up for those (but so glad they prompted me to get checked out!!!)

Left breast - exstensive suspicious calcifications in 1 quadrant 13cm from the nipple at 1-o’clock

Biopsy is scheduled for their earliest opening which is next Wednesday June 5th ( I tried to get the dr to sneak me in early today but he wasn’t falling for it 😉 apparently all the appoinmentsreally are booked)

biopsy preliminary report came back DCIS won’t know about hormone receptors or anything until next week. Dr is scheduling an MRI to help determine size and to have more info to decide next step.
