Badly bruised breast, no trauma with lumps.

Hello all!

To start I will say that I am 55 years old, no history of breast cancer in my immediate family although other cancers and I have been on Hormone Replacement Therapy for 3 years.

I am new to this so I'm sorry if I ramble and don't make a lot of sense, but I am just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them. About 8 or 9 days ago I woke up in the morning and my breast was black and blue. I had no trauma. 8 hours previous my breast was normal and in the morning it looked like I had been punched hard. I couldn't remember running into anything or doing anything damaging to it. I asked my husband if he had noticed anything and he said no. So I have kind of been checking it. I now notice I have a few pea size lumps under the bruising. There is still deep purple colour and some green and yellow bruising. It isn't painful. Sometimes if I have a bruise in other areas of my body I might feel little lumpy things in the bruise if I have had trauma to the area. With no trauma and a sudden bruise and now lumps I wonder if anyone has ever experienced anything like this. I am not a worrying kind of person but I am thinking this is strange. I do have an annual mammogram (which I am 2 months overdue for) scheduled for 3 weeks from now and have just told myself to wait until I go to that and see if anything is up. But the nagging feeling is there in the back of my mind. Can anyone relate to what I am experiencing?

    Are you taking any blood thinners or other medications that might affect bleeding/clotting?

    Thank you for your response.

    No I don't think I'm taking any blood thinners. I do take anti inflammatories or acetaminophen type pain relievers due to chronic back pain but I don't think are thinners.I have been taking them for 15 years or more on and off. I started taking Ozempic last fall to deal with diabetic problems but other than that, nothing new besides the HRT 3 years ago.

    This would be a very unusual presentation for a malignancy in the breast. Spontaneous hemorrhage without any trauma one can recall is usually related to clotting problems either intentional as with blood thinners, a side effect of a medication unrelated to blood thinners, or systemic disease affecting the platelets or clotting factors. If breast imaging is negative, your doc(s) may recommend bloodwork as followup.

    In the category of trauma specific to the breast (that is not always immediately recalled) are dogs large enough to land their paws on the breasts when jumping up to greet you, and infants with heavy shoes who like to kick when you pick them up.

    No kids and just little dogs. With no history of breast cancer I doubt that is what is. I just thought it was very strange the sudden large black bruise. I will wait for my mammogram and not worry about it. I will post back if anything comes out negative. Thanks for your reply.
