Hi guys,

I'm new to this but I figured who better to ask then you guys! I'm 27 years old and when I had a physical done for school, my PCP told me she felt a lot of lumps in my breasts - specifically the right one. When I went to the hospital for a mammogram, they made me do 2 mammograms + an ultrasound. That is when I was informed that I was a Bi Rads 4. I'm really freaking out because my grandmother was diagnosed at 26 years old with breast cancer and passed away at 45 from it. I have my Biopsy tomorrow and I can barely catch my breath with how anxious I am. I don't know what to expect. Can someone give me a bit of insight on their situation that may be similar to mine?

Oh, ajamil1399, we are so sorry for what you are going through. We are sending you tons of positive thoughts and hugs.

Did the doctor explain what kind of biopsy they are planning on doing? Here is a page to help you better understand: Biopsy types

Please take care of yourself today and tonight

Thank you so much for your support!

I was told I would be getting an ultrasound guided core biopsy. They said it looks like fibrodenoma, but they don't know for certain. Also, it's quite large as it's 3.4 cm x 2.9 cm

Good luck with your biopsy. Has your doctor said anything about genetic testing? If not, I suggest you ask. BC at 26 and demise at 45 from BC is a huge red flag.

    Thank you so much!

No, my doctor hasn't been saying much which has been making me feel even more anxious :( After my biopsy, I will be sure to ask her about that!

    Hey mustlovepoodles,

I'm so glad your doc is taking this seriously and sending you for follow up. While most Birads 4 turn out benign, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I'd also say that treatment for breast cancer now has come a long way since your grandmother's time, and her destiny is not your destiny, even if it does turn out to be cancer.

This waiting time is excruciating and terrible. Do what you need to get through it. Your doctor will probably be happy to write a benzo prescription if the anxiety is interfering too much with your life or sleep. For some people it's work, for some people it's exercise, for some people it's TV, whatever gets you through the days until you get your results.

In terms of what to expect, I didn't find the biopsy painful or too troublesome. One of the technicians held my hand and I appreciated that. Everyone was very kind. It didn't take too long. I was supposed to take it easy for a day or so afterwards so I didn't bike there. It took about ten days for my results. They send them straight to the doctor who prescribed the biopsy. If you also want them to go to another doctor, it would be good to sign that paperwork when you go in person tomorrow. The imaging place won't tell you your results. They'll send you to that first doctor. But if you go in person, I believe they have to give you the paperwork of the results. I ended up doing that because of stupid technical issues between the imaging office's fake fax machine and my doctor's office's fake fax machine.

Birads 4 just means that they are recommending a biopsy. Hopefully this will turn out to simply be a benign fibroadenoma. They are quite common. Let us know what your biopsy results show.

Just got word that it is FIBROADENOMA! I'm so relived! They did recommend to remove it since it's quite big so i'll be sure to schedule that.

Thank you all so much for your kind words! It helped more than you can imagine

I know how scary it is because I went through it for a month! Just try and remain calm because from what I've been told, many times (although close family has had it), its usually benign.

I didn't have any other symptons aside from a bit of throbbing pain in the right breast. Other than that, there were no red flags for me!

Did they tell you that they think it's Fibroadenoma? When I did my biopsy they said it was most likely that becuse the edges of mine were more smooth.

My doctor freaked me out too when she told me I had Bi Rads 4 - she kept telling me that it was high. Which obviously made me more scared.

If I were you, I'd try and get it sooner for the mammogram to give you some peace of mind! I called like 10x before my appt to get in sooner.

Please let us know what happens! Hugs to you!
