I say eat beans! beans! beans! and then lentils! I had to change my diet as well, and it's amazing how much organic beans and other fruit and veggies help the body! I am sooo regulated, and energized to workout. I had to pretty much give up red meat, so I did so completely. There are so many options for change. At first it's a little uncomfortable, but after about three days, it almost like you have done it for a lifetime.

    Warm wishes and good health!

Has anyone tried adding vegetable protein (TVP) to soups, etc. I'm trying to stay on the high fiber and pretty much have it bumped up to 30-35...BUT I'm having trouble getting enough protein in my diet and staying at 1500-1800 cal. I bought some this morning at WF...any suggestions? Thought about adding it to a pot of beans to bump up that protein and still get the benefit of the fiber in the beans.

    Hi,
I live in Canada and we can get a bread at Costco called Squirrely bread. Each slice has 5g of fiber and about 1g of fat. It's not cheap, but it's very tasty when toasted! It has a 1 point value on Weight Watchers, too.

I'm always looking at fiber counts on bread. That's unusual to have 5g of fiber. They all want to put 'whole grain' on the label, but if you don't have substantial amounts of fiber it doesn't really mean too much.

I think I'd buy it and freeze the loaf and then have toast with it. I buy other kinds of bread for my children to eat because they go through so much of it!

    Hi,

I agree that 5 g is really high and it really is 5 g per slice! I cannot find bread like this anywhere when I visit the U. S. I buy two loaves at a time and freeze them until needed. Maybe asking your local Costco about this type of bread?

I googled Squirrely bread and found a site. It is made by Silver Hills bakery and is available to order online. But that is temporarily unavailable.
I don't know how the transfer the link over to here, though.
It looks pretty good and there is a toll-free number to order the bread.

This is a good place to bake your own bread.
I got a bread machine for Christmas one year, and you can find high fiber recipes for them.

Has anyone tried the new All Bran Crackers by Kelloggs? They are delicious...5g of fiber for 18 crackers, 130 calories. And they have another flavor...garlic...same 5g fiber. 6g fat, no trans fat.

I use Whey protein to bump up my protein. One scoop offers 20mg of high quality protein. It is a milk byproduct, so if you are lactose sensitive it might no work for you. I buy mine at local health food store...no additives or hormones. I buy the vanilla flavored, but the flavorig is so light that you really can't taste it. You can mix it in virtually anything; juice, soup, beans, water, etc. There is also some studies that show Whey may inhibit tumor growth. Don't know that this has been really established but it could be an added benefit.

In my pre-bc days I'd make a protein shake post-weight lifting. That was soy. I think the whey sounds like a better option. My son bought a huge container of it and never really stuck with it. Maybe I'll go back to it post-weight training.

I've seen those crackers but I haven't bought them yet. I've been buying the All-Bran cereal bar for my son (same one who isn't drinking the whey shakes). He works early morning shifts and I shove one at him on the way out the door. They're pretty good.

A friend of mine suggested that I drink the protein stuff, but the label said not to use it if one has liver problems and that would be me. Be sure to read the label carefully.

I have WW tonight, and might have lost a pound or two. But what is really helping, is the Leslie Sansone power walking DVD-"Walk off the pounds". I have worked up to the 3 mile work out and have lost 3 1/2 inches in a month!

I actually do the DVD in my Birkie sandals and my plantar faciitis has been okay!

I haven't seen the All bran cereal bars...I'll have to look at them..sounds like it would be something good to have while I'm out rowing...and for my dh to take to the office with him. Would love the brand name of a whey protein drink that tastes anywhere close to good. I tried the chocolate one from GNC and even my trainer gagged at it. Have lost 14.5# since January 1...only 14.5 more to go!

I could really get somewhere with the weight loss if it were Ash Wednesday every day! Weighed in at 170 after the day of fasting.

Am giving up Pepsi for lent so for the next few weeks I should do well. Have a terrible cold that is keeping me off the bike but am hoping it passes quickly.

    tzcit,

I wouldn't buy the chocolate Whey. What would you put it in? You are right it probably tastes terrible. The vanilla doesn't really taste like anything. Mix it in something. It is very light and mixes very well. By the way, I pickup up some Whey with "greens" by mistake, now that IS nasty stuff!

Hanging in at 170 sounds good to me--does the bike make your seat sore?

And, Denny, losing 3 and 1/2 inches must be quite a few pounds!

Nice work, lzcait. I think I'd better set a goal, but then I've got to quit snacking. I did take a bottle of tomato juice to the office this week. That's low calorie with good nutrients and does take the edge off the appetite.

No, the bike doesn't bother the bottom. Not sure if it helps or hurts the sore hip...

Thanks...I'm going to try the vanilla...I just couldn't believe they could make chocolate taste that bad!

The bike in spin class killed my butt for the first couple of times and then it went away...guess I toughened up my tush!

Kari - I have a sore hip. The bike bothers it if I stand while peddling, as you sometimes do in spin class. Otherwise I don't notice a problem.

I have some padded shorts I wear. It's a tender area.

Well, I had WW tonight. I had originally lost 5 pounds, but gained it back during the Holidays.
Now I am down another .6 which makes 2 whole pounds in five months!!!
Duh-that is terrible, but I am encouraged by the loss in inches-3 1/2 in a month. Just firming up a lot of the flab I acquired when I couldn't exercise during my reconstruction.
I bought the Kelloggs All-Bran snack bites in brown sugar cinnamon-110 cal per bag and 5 Grams of fiber-they are excellent!

Denny...my dh loves those snack bites also! I'm on a REAL restricted carb intake right now...can't wait to try them...SOON I hope! And remember muscle weighs more than that flab...so you are going in the right direction! And the more muscle we have the more calories we burn.

Rose, those padded shorts are great...we also use them to row long distances in...and I also have one of the gel seats for the spin bike...got it at Target...best $10 I ever spent!

    Everyone have a great weekend!

I took a quick look for the Kellogg's All-bran Snack Bites at the grocery store yesterday, but couldn't find them. What department are they in? Cereal? Snacks?

I found mine in Big Lots at $1.50 a box. At that great price, I didn't look anywhere else!

I looked for those too. I didn't see them with the cereal bars and wonder if I needed to look in the cookie/cracker section.

Right now at both HEB and Randalls, they are putting these only on the end of aisles...and NOT even close to crackers, cookies, cereal bars, etc. They say this is because it is a new item that they are promoting...I keep pointing out that some of them need to go where we can "logically" find them! So you may have to ask someone...but they are worth the search!

Cait, who is still eating cottage cheese, cottage cheese and more cottage cheese!
