Anastrozole side effects

Options

I am new to this site, in fact this is my first posting. I have been reading posts since I was diagnosed with DCIS in November, 2018. Since then I have had a lympectomy, 15 radiation treatments and have been on Anastrozole. Since starting the medication, I have experienced severe diarrhea. I stuck with it for 10 weeks and decided enough is enough, I need to leave my home and bathroom! The oncologist instructed me to stop the anastrozole for 2 weeks and then start Exemestane, hoping this has fewer side effects. Has anyone had this experience? This site has been wonderful-thanks to all.

Hi there, Katherine-33! We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. But we're so sorry to heart about the side effects you're experiencing! Sometimes they can be more difficult to manage than the treatments themselves. We're sure more members of the community will chime in with their experiences soon. But we hope the Exemestane turns out to be a better med for you, please keep us posted on how you do once you switch!

Katherine, I am sorry you are having GI problems. It is GERD and mouthsores that I have had. Some nausea. My oncologist wants me to change to Femara if I can not tolerate it. I have a friend who did well on Aromasin, which I believe is the one you are going on. Keep us informed on your progress. Prayers. The whipped cream on the tongue helped me have less burning in my mouth tonight. Thanks to this cite for telling me about this.

Bornfightin, Thank you for your reply. Sorry about your side effects-all of them are unpleasant. Are you taking Anastrozole? I will let you know if Exemestane (Aromasin) is more tolerable when I start it in a few weeks.
