Prophylactic anti-biotics prior to dental cleaning

I wondered what the latest thinking is on administration of antibiotics prior to dental cleaning and other dental procedures. I was wondering what others were doing who have breast implants as part of reconstruction.

    Hi Lime!

Obviously, check with your own docs and dentist. My experience was, with the expanders, my PS asked me to skip my dental cleaning. I go every three months so that was not the end of the world. After my implants he said I did not need prophylaxis before dentist. I just had my implants swapped and revision surgery last week. Meant to have a dental cleaning one month post op. You reminded me to check with my PS and dentist about prophylaxis so close to surgery!

Thanks for the reply! Thankfully I’m a few years out so it sounds like things may have changed but I will be sure to double check. I’ve been taking them for years but then my dentist said I probably don’t need to. Plus I started reading differing opinions on the topic when researching. I wish you all the best

I have never been told to take antibiotics prior to dental work, etc.

My PS isn't big on prophylactic antibiotics. So I was quite surprised when my dentist's office contacted her and she said that with an expander in, yes, I should take antibiotics before a dental cleaning or any dental work. I believe with implants, her recommendation is antibiotics only for major dental work, no longer necessary for cleanings.
