New here....worried about the rush of my docs.

My first post so I apologize if I do something wrong. I'm 42 and started experiencing slight aching on my left breast on Saturday. By Monday morning, it was worse (not painful but more aching and hurting if it touched something). I also at that point had the most disgusting discharge ever. It was not spontaneous but it was thick and looked like brown mustard. Got an appointment that day and my GYN sent the discharge off, ordered diagnostic mammogram for the next day (Tuesday) and appointment with breast surgeon on Thursday 😳. Went to mammo yesterday... 2 rounds of pics and ultrasound later, they said it could be chronic mastitis and want me on antibiotics ASAP as well as get in with the surgeon even sooner than my appointment tomorrow. I'm trying to read between the lines while not panicking but I'm scared that the rush is concern for inflammatory breast cancer. I havesymptoms on both sides but I'm just kind of in a fog. Anyone have anything similar with the rush being because they thought it was because of cancer?

    Hi.  I don't have much insight but hang in there.  The fact that they are moving quickly means you will have answers soon.  Could be "just" an infection.  In any event, you know you have a team that is going to push for you and not let time pass unnecessarily.  I'll be thinking of you.

    It's hard to tell since every place has their own process & some places seem to move things along faster than others in general. I would ask the BS about IBC and any other questions you have so you can get more answers.

    Could be a severe infection that they have to investigate and maybe remove the cause. Breast surgeon will determine best approach. Don't let your mind wander, stay on track with infection because that is what you know so far.

    Hi Sophia - 

    I am new here too and I can relate.  I also have been getting a "must rush" although my situation is more of a imaging/biopsy than pain/discharge one.  I am sorry that you are dealing with unpleasant physical symptoms along with the emotional upheaval.  That is a double helping of "I don't need this crap."

    I agree with the others that it is good you are getting immediate attention rather than being ignored by your practitioners.  And so far no one is suggesting doing anything invasive - just antibiotics and external testing.  Does your GYN or PCP have a nurse line that you can call?   Or maybe you can speak directly to your GYN or PCP themselves.  There is nothing wrong with simply saying "I appreciate the speed with which everyone is reacting but the sense of urgency is frightening me."  Anyone with a soul is going to tell you that it is perfectly normal for you to feel that way and do it in a kind reassuring voice.  It is one thing to see it written on a chat board but a very different thing to hear it coming from your doctor's office.
