edited May 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

I'm freaking out and shutting down right now.

Had a mammo and results came back with a mass just under 2cm. Only had one mammo before 5 years ago, but it was clear. Radiologist said margins looked like it had good clear margins, oval, suspected it was a cyst or fibroadenoma. Scheduled ultrasound.

Had the ultrasound today. Different radiologist. Said it looks like it had suspicious margins on the ultrasound. Wants a biopsy next week. Says that it will be two weeks after that to get results.

I went from being nervous about the test but thinking it would clear everything up to being told it looks suspicious. I feel like the floor has fallen out from underneath me. I really just wanted to be a lurker, not have to create a username.

Hang in there - it still might turn out to be nothing. And if it is something, you'll deal with it. We're all stronger than we think.

Hopefully they'll be a bit faster with the pathology results than they're saying. The waiting is definitely the hardest part.

best of luck to you and I'm hoping that the results are benign. That seems like a long wait for path results, mine came in the next day, so hopefully it's faster than 2 weeks. The wait is definitely the hardest part. And if it is something, you already found a great place for support and education.

Praying for good results on the biopsy

In the meantime, go have some fun, do normal (or silly) things. It will make the time go faster, and build some good memories to balance out any less-than-good ones later on. And even those less-than-good ones might be more tolerable than you would think.

I went and picked up my report. Birads 4b.

I think 80% of Birads 4 biopsies come back benign. Even if you figure that is slightly higher for 4a and slightly lower for 4c, you're still looking at very fair odds.

That said, whatever it is, and even if it's cancer, you'll deal with it. The floor is still under you! It can just be hard to feel sometimes.

Thanks everyone. It's the busy season ag work, so I had to work both days this weekend, which helped a little. Trying to keep my mind from becoming a runaway train.

I keep repeating the statistics to myself. For once, the numbers aren't calming me.

Thanks everyone. I really do appreciate it. I posted my report in the thread about interpreting results. And will call the GPS to get a referral and figure out how soon I can get the biopsy done.

question for snyone: what is the difference between a stereotactic biopsy and an ultrasound guided core biopsy besides your position on the table?

I'm trying to get the biopsy scheduled. The rad report recommended a us guided core needle biopsy. But at first one place ried scheduling me for a stereotactic. Then realised they couldn't schedule another of those that day, and had to look weeks in the future.

Do the two types of biopsies look for different things or handle the fissue differently?

Both biopsies use the same core needle and do the same thing, but a stereotactic biopsy uses a mammogram as the guide.

Ultrasoundguided biopsies are easier on the patient because you are lying comfortably on your back and your breast isn't being squeezed by the mammogram machine. To my understanding, usually if an area of suspicion is equally visible on both a mammogram and an ultrasound, an ultrasound-guided biopsy will be done because it is easier.

Thank you, Beesie, that's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. This mass is easily found on both types of imaging.

Had the biopsy yesterday afternoon, got the call with the results this morning that it's benign -- fibroadenoma. Can't even express how relieved I am. And I want to say thank you to everyone who's been so nice and helpful on these boards.

So happy for your benign results. I had my stereotactic biopsy today and have to wait 7 to 10 days for results. Hoping for the same as you. Mine was also 4b.
