How long does it take to find out?
Does it usually take forever from the time you find your lump to get diagnosed? I don't want to sound dramatic because I know other people are going through way worse stuff than I am right now, but the wait is killing me.
I had my first ultrasound at the beginning of March. I waited for 5 weeks for a mammogram and another us. At that point, my doc called and said they wanted to biospy it. I will have that done this week. The secretary at the doc's office just called and said that I need to meet with a surgeon for a consult on the 21st to go over my results. I didn't even know I had to meet with a surgeon and that hit me like a ton of bricks. Have they already decided that I have cancer without doing a biospy?? Do you always meet with a surgeon?
Sorry if i sound like a big baby. I feel like my life is on hold in so many ways until I figure out what is going on. I start a new job next week and am worried that I will have to quit a few weeks into it. 😔

The breast surgeon typically orders the biopsy. You probably need to establish yourself as a patient before having the procedure. Try to calm down--it's still likely this is benign.

Yes, there is unfortunately a lot of waiting involved. You can try to move things faster by calling the surgeon's office every morning to see if you can get an earlier appointment (in case they have cancellations). Or finding another surgeon that can take you sooner. In my case my doc sent me directly to a center where they have surgeons and they can do all those procedures on the same day. The surgeon performed the biopsy. Then I had to wait almost a week for all the lab results to come back. Most biopsies turn out to be benign, so don't get ahead of yourself yet. Try to distract yourself with fun things or work/chores until you get more information. Best wishes & good vibes to you!

My symptoms/lumps were discovered at the end of October and I did not receive my diagnosis until January. The waiting is awful and causes your mind to race with all kinds of emotions. I found this especially true when reading some people get their results very quickly! Hang in there and I hope for positive results for you.

I had my screening mammogram the first of November. By the time we did diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound, core biopsy and excisional biopsy it was April. This through a very busy public hospital breast center.

Thank you for your replies. I get my results tomorrow so could use some good thoughts my way. This wait has felt like forever--although, if I actually count it out, it has only been 3 months. Who knew 3 months could feel like an eternity? I am eager to know what my next step is. I have felt like my life has been on hold and am hopeful that they will have something to tell me tomorrow.

best wishes Time hope. The waiting sucks. It just does. Everyone tells me it’s the worst part, and so far, it really has been.

I met with my surgeon, who is super amazing, but my results still aren't in!? How can that be? I need to wait until the 13th of June now which means it will be almost a month after my biospy and 4 months since I first went to the doctor. I don't know what to think anymore. 😒
