46 year old freaking out
so glad I have found a resource! About 2 weeks ago I found a lump in my left breast near my armpit. Made an appointment the next day with GYN and actually got in that day. This past Tuesday I went in for an US and mammogram. My prior two mammograms were fine. While in for the US I watched the screen and saw the mass. It is about an inch big. I made the comment of “oh is it a cyst”. The MD and tech both said they wished it was. As you can imagine I heard nothing after that. My biopsy is Tuesday.
This girl is freaking out! Is this big? Is it possible for a mass to grow in 10 months (last mammogram in June). Am I overreacting???? I think I have read every google topic....ugh. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

You're in that weird time where you know something is going on but you don't know what. It's incredibly stressful. Don't worry about under or over reacting now, whatever reaction you are having, that's the reaction you're having.
I'll just say -
- they're sending you for a biopsy because they don't know and *can't* know that it's cancer without one. If they can't know whether it's cancer, there's no way for you to know either, yet. No amount of googling can substitute for a biopsy. Bodies are weird and do lots of strange things. There's almost never just one possible explanation for a thing like a lump.
- if it IS cancer, you'll most likely feel much better after your first meeting with an oncologist. You will start to have an idea of your treatment plan and an idea of what the next few months of your life will look like. It is much less scary to face a known than an unknown. And you will be able to find plenty of support here and hopefully through your treatment center.
In my experience, the mental/emotional parts of dealing with this have been harder than the physical parts. Hang in there. Take care of yourself. Do what you need to do to get through this terrible wait time. -
thank you so much! I will let you know the results (hopefully) next week. Love and hugs to all❤️❤️❤️

G1973 - I think you and I are on the same timeline. I also have a palpable lump that wasn’t there at my regular mammogram last year. I hope you get good news next week

same to you. Positive thoughts!

I am curious about the size of the mass.
Where does the 1 inch measurement come from? Did they tell you it measured that size or did the image of the mass on the screen appear to be about an inch across?
If you are estimating the size of the mass from the image on the screen know that this is a magnified image and may not accurately represent the actual size of the mass.

I asked the MD and tech during the ultrasound how “big it”was. She said about an inch long. My GYN said around 5cm. If it makes a difference it runs up and down my outer left breastfor lack of better terminology. Thanks for all the help!

Why is my boob trying to kill me? Pathology was back today IDC grade 3. Meeting with mysurgeon on Monday. So relieved my MD has referred me to her #1 pick. Having a total pity party tonight but will preparing to kick ass. FYI my biopsy are itches like no tomorrow....

Hi G1973, sorry you got the bad news but good for you for finding the lump and going to the doctor and getting the ball rolling. Have they told you anything about hormone receptor status yet? That will often be part of the decision for the order of treatments.
Hang in there. -
moth
No, nothing yet on the “rest” of the pathology. With my age and being premetapausal (for craps sake started my period two days ago) she truly thinks it it it harmone receptive. I am sure that diagnose relates to me as well
A sincere thank you to all!

G1973- I am so sorry 😓 I wish no one would have to go through something like this. I am currently waiting for the results of my biopsy. I will be praying for you and for all us. Please keep us updated.

G1973 - my preliminary said that it was low estrogen/progesterone which doesn't surprise me since I have been post menopause for about 4-5 years. It's probably not related though. They wouldn't give me a copy of the prelim report so I have to wait for the rest of it until I either see my surgeon or they scan it to my patient portal.
Sorry about your diagnosis. Oddly it is also my left breast. I need a shirt that "My boob is trying to kill me!

Not to make light of the situation but in regards to your statement above, this is a very popular T shirt.
I have seen post mastectomy patients after their reconstruction come into the center wearing them:

Ha! I just saw this reply djmammo.
If we don't make light of this at times, we would probably all be in a closet curled up in fetal position refusing to face the world.
G1973 - it looks like it may be chemo first for me. I met with the surgeon and that's her recommendation. I will meet with a MO this week to see if they agree. Port placement already scheduled for this Friday. Hope you are doing well

DogMomRunner so good to hear from you. You are so right if we were not laughing I would still be in the shower crying! Chemo is first for me too. I had my port put in last Thursday. And start on Wednesday. My tumor is a grade 3 and my clinical diagnosis changed from stage IIb to stage three after my MRI. I’ve named her big Bertha and she is growing pretty quick. I will have four A/C infusions the 4 T infusions. Going in every other week. Honestly it can’t start fast enough.
Don’t worry about your port placement it wasn’t bad at all. I bruised pretty good and it feels really weird but other than that it’s all good! Keeping you in my thoughts!!!

G1973,
I am 49 and official DX was on my 47th birthday. I named mine extended diarrhea. Had 4DD AC chemo followed by 4DD Taxol. Dose dense chemo is rough but you have to and will face it head on. Please be gentle to yourself such as sleep as much as possible. Eat whenever you can.

castigame thank you for letting me know. My plan is to keep positive and listen to what my body wants. I hope that you are doing well!!
-
Good luck to you on Wednesday! Show Big Bertha who is boss!
-
