HI,

I am a 48 yr old. 3 nights ago I noticed my right breast larger than my left. I went to primary doctor the next day. he said exam was benign and I could see a breast specialist if I wanted. The earliest appointment is may 13. I then went to my midwife the next day (wednesday) she sent me for ultrasound and mammogram. A mass was present (my last mammo was this past january and I had a breast MRI in october 2018, both of which were normal) They then did an ultrasound guided core needle biopsy. I spoke with the doctor about testing for IBC by doing a punch biopsy. She stated that because my only symptom is swelling, there is no area of redness, orange peel skin, dimpling, that they would not know where to do a punch biopsy. I am now waiting for the results of the core needle biopsy from the mass that showed on the mammo and ultrasound. Even if the results from the biopsy come back positive or negative, there is still no explanation for the swelling. So I would like to rule out or rule in IBC> I feel like this is wasted time, and I should be tested for IBC somehow. Should I contact MD anderson? any one with experience?

Hi Koala, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're sorry you're here and worrying, and we hope you get some responses soon. Please know there are lots of other benign reasons for breast swelling. Try to remain calm and positive until your biopsy results come in. Did they tell you when to expect these results?

I was supposed to have an appt today with Roswell park cancer institute in buffalo. They had to reschedule because they were still waiting for pathology results from the lab from my biopsy. I was glad to know that they get the slides and have their own pathologist do tests. That appt was rescheduled for next friday. I also have an appt Monday with a different breast specialist. So I'm just waiting. The results from the initial pathology report are benigh atypical ductal hyperplasia. However, my right breast is bigger than my left and the doctor said this mass would not cause breast enlargement, so Idk. Thanks for asking.
