What are the risks of waiting 4 months to start rad treatment?

Options

Hi All - Anyone know the risks of waiting 4 months to start rad treatment? I finished chemo end of January, had lumpectomy on 3/5, had bad margins so mastectomy on 3/22 - due to start rad treatment on Monday 5/6 and would prefer to wait until September if it's possible. Thank you!

Putting off rads for 4 months almost defeats the purpose. The purpose of rads is to eradicate any lingering cancer cells that can go into your blood stream and 'set up shop' else where in your body, which I believe could indicate metasticis.

I was told the efficacy of radiation starts to drop around 12 weeks after BMX. My MO really wanted to get people started before then. I think he put 20 weeks at the outside edge of where starting any later was getting to be dangerous. Nonetheless, there were plenty of women in the waiting room that were months post surgery, often due to complications. I think I started around the 10 week mark. Doing it much sooner than that was not possible because I needed PT to be able to get my arm above my head.
