GP found a lump in my breast, I'm scared.
Hiya.
I found a lump in my right breast 3 days ago (like just above the crease between my breast and rib), which made me a bit worried. Personally, it felt like a spot or a cyst to me. After talking to my mum, we decided to get me a GP appointment the next day. GP examined me and said that the lump I found is just a cyst and nothing to be worried about, but she felt around and felt something else in my breast. She said that she's 95% sure there's nothing to be worried about, but she booked me in to a breast clinic just to be thorough. My appointment's on the 7th of May and the anticipation is agonising.
I'm 25 and I do not believe my family has any history of breast cancer. Nor have I been exhibiting any nipple discharge or changes in my breast's outward appearance or anything like that. My period finished like 10 days ago. I'm just really scared, and I have serious anxiety issues. My anxiety attacks are actually giving me physical pain. My mum is supporting me, but I know that she's also worried about me. She feels like the doctor was being honest (I had to have my mum in the room with me for support) and the doctor did reassure her and me a few times. Would anyone mind posting their experiences with this? I'm trying to stay calm but my mood is fractious right now because I'm so worried.
I have noticed a little tenderness/pain since pressing on the area where the lump is. My anxiety makes me obsessively check it every so often. Outside of pre-menstrual tenderness (which affects both of my breasts, but moreso my right I think), my breast hasn't caused me too many issues up until the past few days since the lump was found. The skin cyst has almost completely disappeared, however.
What could this be? I can't relax and I'm struggling psychologically and physically right now. I am receiving therapy for my anxiety, but I am still finding it hard to cope with this.
Update 7/5/2019: Breasts were examined at the clinic, they're normal and no further investigation is needed! :')

I can see several positive aspects to your story. You are proactive and looking into the lump. You’ve got a GP (plenty of people your age don’t.) You’ve got a supportive mom. You’re getting things checked out at a breast center. At your age and with your family history, the chances are really good it’s benign. Do whatever you can to distract yourself between now and May 7. Go for walks with your mom, binge watch a new TV series, learn to knit, read... it will help with your stress and anxiety. Stay off the internet; there’s a lot of garbage out there!Waiting is so hard; we have all been there. I felt so powerless just waiting for the phone to ring. Check back and let us know how things work out!

Thank you.
I've been doing these things, and it has helped a little bit. I'll try and post here with an update once I go. Fingers crossed it's nothing bad.

Talk to your mom and ask your gp about the possibility of some temporary anxiety medication. Waiting can be very hard. So far, you did everything right and it sounds like you are in good hands! This site is great and you can post about any concerns you may have!

I agree that you're doing all the right things for the possible (but extremely unlikely) cancer. Our bodies do so many strange and new things, and there are very very many non-cancer things this could be, including a large variety of benign cysts.

Hello again. I thought I'd give an update about my situation!
I went to the breast clinic this morning and had my breasts thoroughly examined by the clinical specialist. They're absolutely normal and no further investigation is needed.
We posited that the lump my GP may have felt is probably due to my cycle, but she encouraged me to check my breasts monthly after my period just to be breast aware of any changes.
Thank you again to all the lovely people who posted in my thread to assuage my concerns. I was very, very afraid (to the point where I was put on diazepam to treat my anxiety). Your kindness helped me get through a very difficult time and I wish all of you the best in life.
