Ultrasound

hi all

Im just wondering... what could cause a palpable lump that isn't seen on ultrasound? I had a mammogram and ultrasound today and despite the lump being large the sonographer said she couldn't see anything stand out on the ultrasound. Hopefully once it's reviewed by the radiologist they can tell me more but I'm just curious about what the lump could be if not noticeable by ultrasound.

Thanks in advance

My palpable lump was not seen on ultrasound and I was misdiagnosed for 20 months. Please ask for further testing. Good luck and keep us posted.

wow I'm so sorry to hear that. I definitely will be asking for further tests and if no luck I'll request a lumpectomy because it's quite large and obvious.

Oh good. Glad you are getting it out. That is the only way to truly know what it is.

I also had a mass that didn't image on either mammography or ultrasound - MRI was the necessary diagnostic tool due to breast density. Please keep pushing to get answers. I like the idea of an excisional biopsy. Get it out. My best to you.

thank you! I can't believe how many people seem to report this and then go on to find out that it is cancerous. The waiting game is so hard and I wish I could've just either had an obvious benign result or it was clear about what the next step would be

But all the women who had this situation and found out it was benign aren't hanging out on a cancer board.

I am in the same exact boat as you. The lump can be felt and it is not tiny. Nothing showed on the Mammo or Ultrasound. I have an appointment with a Breast Specialist this week. I keep trying to tell myself it has to be nothing but I am not listening and still freaking out! I hope we both get the answers we need.

In my case a lump was palpable but not detected on ultrasound or mammogram and I had to have an excisional biopsy.  Fortunately it turned out to be inflamed tissue.   In some cases fibroglandular tissue can feel like a moveable lump and just shows up white on the mammogram and ultrasound.  Better safe than sorry.
