Waiting to have biopsy done š„ so nervous
Hi everyone! Iām new here so thanks for any replyās. I am 47. Had my yearly mammo last week. Iām a healthy gal (a bit over weight though) and never had a problem before since age 40. They called me in for a breast ultrasound. Radiologist came in to chat. He was so nice and sweet. Said something showed up that wasnāt there last year. A dense area and spotted a small spot. He was concerned about it having a rough edge. Just wants to do a biopsy to make sure. Didnāt say what it was or was in a hurry to get me in. Of course I started crying and have been so worried sick since. This was Friday. I have to wait a whole week for the biopsy next Monday 29th. I am in menopause so I hope itās just that. My left breast does ach once in awhile. No changes in skin, shape or leakage. Pretty sure this is small. Any others have this experience? I hope and pray its benign. My aunt had bc at age 60 and took the blood test showing it wasnāt genetic. Thank you all for any help.

Welcome to BCO! I can't really offer any advice other than it's definitely hard to be waiting for a biopsy, and then waiting for results. I feel you, especially on a holiday. Hang in there and try to distract yourself. I hope it all turns out well for you!!

Hi! I too am waiting and I am so sorry you have to wait so long for your biopsy. I was diagnosed with LCIS back in 2016 so I get alternating diagnostic mammos and ultrasounds every 6 months. All has been fine, so the radiologist recommended I downgrade to just a screening mammo this year whih i was so happy about...and of course I get recalled due to asymmetry and calcifications. This past thursday I had the additional images and an ultrasound and was told i needed to have another stereotactic core biopsy. I have spent the weekend trying to keep busy but I have spent way too much time googling! Now i have to go into work tomorrow and tell my boss and coworkers that i need to take the day off for the biopsy. I am not in the mood to see their faces filled with worry yet again. But I digress...
You have come to the right place though, its a great place to pass the time and learn a bit about how this all works. I hope the wait time passes swiftly for you!

urbanfarm... the waiting is pure agony, isnāt it? I wish this waiting on no one. But just remember, you havenāt been diagnosed... so even though it will be hard, try to enjoy this week. Excercise, binge Netflix, go out to eat. Anything to take your mind off of it. Only the biopsy result will prove it to be negative or positive.
Did he give you a Birads score? Can you post your report?
My advice to you: Prep for your biopsy... take a Tylenol prior to the biopsy (even though itās not too painful, it is uncomfortable and you might bruise after) and make sure to ask him when and how you will receive results. Over the phone? At an appointment? Make the follow up/resultsappointment if you have to... that way you KNOW that you will receive results on āxā day at āxā time. I had my biopsy on a Monday afternoon and by Wednesday afternoon , I had my preliminary results. Take someone with you, just so you can have support.
You will get through this, I promise. Hopefully you wonāt have to come back to this board, but if you do, we will welcome you with open arms.
Blessings.

Understand how you feel.I'm in the same boat. Waiting for my biobsy which is scheduled in 10 days. The worst part is this is my second time that I have to go through all these testing and been sent all the way to biobsy, I'm only 41. I have been either biobsy or required additional imagine, or diagnosed benign condition every time when going breast cancer screening since I was 34. So hanging there. You are not alone.Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Hi! And thank you. No he did not give me a Birads at the ultrasound. I sure hope and pray itās nothing. Thank you all for responding.

I have been cancer free for almost 3 years. Yearly mammo shows calcification. How often are these cancerous? Nervous & waiting also. I had Stage 1A ER+PR+ HER-.

when I went in for a mammo.... they saw something. Pulled me out of mammo.... into ultra sound the same hour....... after ultra sound the same day..... immediate punch biopsy done in the next room of the breast center. They knew. If they were terribly worried, you wouldn't be waiting a week to have that biopsy done. They would be stream lining you to have all the testing done ASAP. They are being careful, which I wish they would have been more with me. I was diagnosed Denovo out of the gate, age 45,at least they are on top of it. Words like small and wait a week. Are good words. !! Wish you all the luck. All of you !
-
Thank you Micmel. I pray all goes well for you.
-
To all of you who are waiting, - remember that over 80% of biopsies are BENIGN! They check EVERYTHING these days! I know how hard it is, but think GOOD thoughts!
Sending be well wishes and hugs from NYC!

Not to scare anyone new, but not every breast center gives immediate ultrasounds for an iffy mammogram. I was notified about a week later that I needed an ultrasound and, if needed, a biopsy the same day. And some places do the ultrasound but schedule biopsies for a different day. Each center is different, and you should not find deviations from what other people have experienced to mean anything good OR bad. Just different.

Mcgd11 - As I know, calcifications can be benigns. The problem is with micro calcifications. My mammo shows benigns calcifications in my right breast. The tumor is in the left breast and mammo shows a group of microcalcificaciones inside it. I hope this help you. Kisses

ok yes it did thanks so much. I find out tomorrow

I am now in the same boat, I am 43 and have not had a mammogram since my physician said I wouldn't need to start until I was 45 unless I felt something well that happened a couple of weeks ago, went into my doctors office she felt the same lump on my left and ordered a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, took almost 2 weeks to get in. Went in yesterday had the mammogram done then went in for the ultrasound, ultrasound didn't find anything with my left which is where I can feel the lump but both the mammogram and ultrasound showed a 2 cm spot, the radiologist came in and took a look with the ultrasound of the lump I could feel and she's felt it as well. She said that was in Moreno then likely tissue but will re check it in 6 months, but the one on the right looks suspicious and now waiting for biopsy in 2 weeks. How in the heck am I going to make it the next 2 weeks? I am so scarred and worried. I have 2 little girls still at home, my husband has been Right by my side.
-
Hang in there. It was so scary for me as well. I found out mine was benign and just a fibroadenoma. But I realized during this time how important life is and how all the stupid little things I complained about were not! Youwill be ok!!!
-
Alice- are you taking tamoxifen
-
I had a mammogram on Wednesday and was told I needed a biopsy on Monday because of a calcification cluster. I am terrified. There are small worries like asking for a day off from work that I try to focus on to keep me from panicking, but I am so scared.
-
Hi Blue- Was this a routine mamogram
-
Blue, what type of biopsy? Iāve had 3 different types & they were all fine. They will numb you up so donāt be nervous! Try to keep busy if you can. Sending good thoughts your way
-
yes I was so scared too. Think about all the good things in your life. It will keep you going! I will pray for you
-
Hi Blue, I just spent the last week waiting on results of core biopsy on a cluster of micro calcifications (2mm). I was terrified and could do nothing else but worry. I got results today and it came back benign! It was just fibrocystic changes in the dense breast tissue. I will be thinking of you; this wait is not for the faint of heart. I will say that if the outcome had gone the other way, I felt so much more prepared and educated bc of this site and all the wonderful people here
-
yes, this was a routine mammogram.
-
I am scheduled for a a stereoscopic biopsy .
Thank you for the support and well wishes.
-
Hi Blue- the reason i asked is
because i also had a routine
mamogram- hohum- thinking
all would be aok like always- even thought
put it off by 4 months cos i had
a bit of angst about doing these every
2 years and the radiation etc-
so anyways- they noticed this calcification
star as well- had an ultrasound-
and then they said come back next week
for a biopsy- seriously, i thought?
i couldnt believe it and felt like rubber-
waited one freaking week for this biopsy...
so, feeling on an adrenalin panic and
in a daze... i had the biopsy.
Many instances, these star clusters
may be benign and not necessarily
mean cancer- hiwever, only a biopsy
will tell. So, in i went- and in my case-
it was in fact cancer. In my case, reflecting
back now, that was the worst part
of this whole experience so far- worse
than surgery- radiation etc- 100%
worse- the fear and wsiting snd
wondering was excruciating- all other
worries or concerns disappeared right
then snd there- BUT-...... i was
told over and over and over
that when cancer is picked up
by these routine mamograms- the odds
are in our favour for ā early detection=
highly treatableā- so as terrified
as you are- first and foremost, realize
that the results may be fine- benign-
they want to err on side of caution-
if results show a cancer- please try
to allow yourself the truth that
it is ā treatableā- not a ā death sentenceā-
Having gone through this since january
i never would have believed i could say
this at the time- the unknown etc-
the ladies in this forum are incredible
and experiences are shared, it
helps so much- i plan to
continue to ā pay it firwardā whenever i can-snd by the way, most procedures
in my own case were pretty painless-
