rejecting chemo-prevention for ADH and ALH...Opinions...

Diagnosed with ADH and ALH approx. 15 years ago. Normal mammos since then. Now new Dr. is suggesting chemo-prevention, not sure if the side effects are worth it. Looking for opinions. Thanks.

    I assume you're talking about an anti-hormonal? I've never heard of them being recommended for ALH/ADH, but others may have a different experience. I had ALH 10 years ago, then DCIS in 2016, and IDC in 2018, all with the same breast surgeon. An AI was never recommended until last year when my tumor was found to be ER+. (I don't even know if ALH/ADH have hormone receptors? If not how can they tell if it's being fed by estrogen?)

    Hi lululinks, I was diagnosed with ALH 4 years ago. I have tried Tamoxifen, Aromasin and have now settled on Evista as the drug that has the least side effects for me. I'm happy that I can take something to lower my breast cancer risk.

    Hi, actually I have no idea what's going on..Diagnosed 15yrs. ago with ADH and ALH, my Dr never mentioned medication just mammos to keep a close eye on things. He was a very cautious man and didn't take any chances with me. He sinced retired, and this new Dr. that took his place all she talks about is chemo prevention. So confused...which is why I'm looking for opions. Thanks for your reply

    I would imagine the standard of care has changed since you were first diagnosed. My breast surgeon first recommended tamoxifen and I started going to an Oncologist to moniter me. I think a lot of women choose not to take medication, for me, I wanted to do all I could for prevention. I also have alternating mammograms & MRI's, so far, so good.

    I recently was diagnosed with ADH in my healthy breast. A standard treatment for atypical cells is Tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor. Some are using a lower dose of Tamoxifen. I was already on an Letrozole when I got ADH, so obvious it wasn’t working for me.
