Tamoxifen & having asthma symptoms (wheezing & heaviness)?

Options

Hello Ladies,

Anyone out there on Tamoxifen and having issues with heaviness in the chest and wheezing. For the past 1-2 I have been having these symptoms and although I have viral induced asthma (i.e. When I am sick) I've never had asthma symptoms at any other time. My hubby did a quick search on the internet and found a posting of women who have had this, as well as, a doctor who confirmed this also. I respect this site immensely and wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

I have been having asthma every evening for about a month when I first contracted a cold that went into my chest. I have never had viral-induced asthma last this long, so now I am wondering about Tamoxifen. Did you ever get to the bottom of your question?

I don't want to scare you, but blood clots are a (rare?) side effect of tamoxifen. I had a blood clot in my lung and those were my symptoms. If it gets worse, like you have pain when inhaling or find yourself gasping, I'd head to the ER right quick. For me, it changed overnight, from wheezing/heaviness to struggling to breath. I wouldn't take any chances.

I certainly hope it's just a virus or something, but thought I'd mention it just in case. Hope it gets better soon.

That was my first thought too but I didn't want to be alarmist. I think you should get it checked out and tell them you are Tamoxifen?

Oh my, my mind conjured all kinds of icky thoughts up but not that one. That idea had not even occurred to me. I will give it another day or two since I am not having chest pain, and if it doesn't clear up, I'll go see my GP :-(.

Well, interesting... I went off Tamoxifen to have my TE surgery, and I went back on it again about a week ago. I started wheezing and coughing again! I did get over the last bout, so I am thinking this is not a blood clot nor a cold but a Tamoxifen allergy or side effect? I am hoping it will get better as it did before. Anyone else have this SE?

I would stop taking it and see your doctor, you may be allergic to it.

Yes, I have exactly those symptoms right now!! Tightness in my chest and coughing started one week after switching to tamoxifen. Haven’t had asthma issues for years and only happened with colds or allergies. Haven’t had any of that resently, just the drug change from aromasin to tamoxifen because of the painful SE’s.... So is this a dangerous SE of tamoxifen? What did your docs say?

I have them too! I’m in bed right now and my chest is heavy and I’m wheezing. I finished tamoxifen about 7 weeks ago. It’s scaring me that my cancer has spread to my lungs.
