I go back to the doctor in March and if all looks good, he will schedule the flap surgery. I will let you know how it goes.
-
Did you get your surgery scheduled? Mine is April 3rd. I have been praying for you.
-
My surgery is scheduled for April 19. Hope all goes well with yours!
-
I will be praying for you!!

Talongley59, how did your surgery go? How are you feeling?
-
My surgery went well. 1.2 positive mass removed with negative margins and no nodes. Only pain meds is tylenol now. Hopefully only followup treatment will be 5 years of tamoxifen. Start hyperbaric oxygen treatment on the 15th. First fill scheduled for the 19th. Still praying for your upcoming surgery.

Glad you're doing well. So you just had expanders and will have implants? No latissiumus dorsal procedure?

Wow! VitageGirl224, we have almost the exact same scenario except I'm a year behind you. 2004 DCIS - lumpectomy and radiation, now 2019 IDC in same breast and getting ready for mastectomy. Trying to determine what route to go now. How did your breast heal from the radiation so many years ago? I'm lucky mine looks and feels completely normal but I'm learning that doesn't mean all will go ok with implants. The plastic surgeon I spoke with yesterday said he would do some kind of test to see what the blood flow is like and make a decision from there. Feeling so overwhelmed. Thanks for posting and hope your upcoming surgery goes well!

Hi, Hodgepodge.
My breast did great with radiation all those years ago which was why I felt like I'd be fine with just having an implant this time around. I never had a lot of redness from the rads and everything looked fine. I wish my surgeon had done a test for blood flow before all this began last year. Good luck! Please let me know how it goes for you.

Hello! New on here, I wanted to tell you my journey with Double Mastectomy, 22 Chemo treatments and 8 weeks of daily radiation treatments. My surgeon tucked my remaining breast flaps to get the most amount and area treated. My left side breast was stitched to my chest. When I was done, the plastic surgeon made me wait one full year before I got the expanders. Absolute pain from my left side, the skin is so tight, we could never get a full breast, the tightness eventually ruptured the expander. Now I sit here for round 2 of new expanders and my left side will not hold the saline, my right side looked good and gave me hope, until tonight making my bed and my right side expander rupture and it’s so defeating mentally. I went 2 years with out any breast and it’s 2019, 4 years after surgery I have one flat breast and now the other deflated.
I pray everyone has a successful journey and I say it’s God’s Will

NaviCPK, my heart goes out to you.

VintageGirl, I think my plastic surgeon said he will do some kind of test in surgery to check blood flow but didn't write details in my notes. I will check with him about that. I hope your surgery goes well! I will be thinking about you!

VintageGirl224 and hodgepodge hope your surgeries went well. My radiated side had post surgical issues and they removed the TE on that side. We will try again in June to add the TE. Supposedly it didn't have anything to do with previous radiation just my bad luck

Praying you both had sccessful surgeries.

RRShannon, sorry to hear of your problems. My surgery went well. I don't feel as bad as I thought I would. Mostly just sore. Frankly, I feel a little disfigured with all the ugly scars I have now, but in the grand scheme it's not that important. Hope things go well for you when they try again.
-
VintageGirl224 Glad all went well for you. I totally get the disfigured feeling. Hopefully the PS can make us more normal in the end.

I am one week out from surgery (BMX with TE under the muscle) today. My unradiated side seems more swollen and painful than the other, surprisingly. I am such a ball of emotion and worry. I have my follow up with the breast surgeon tomorrow. Hoping I'll feel more at ease after that.
