This is what I am waiting for this year - we don't plant until they show up.

So excited the Oregonians and New Mexicans are getting their spring on! I went to the garden center Friday just to be among it. We technically should wait until May 15 to plant. They had lots of pansies and some pretty spring planters but I refrained for now. Pansies don’t do well for long here, so I will wait for something longer lasting. They also had tons of potted hydrangea of all colors, and those were super hard to resist,

Good Morning my BCO Gardening Friends,

I posted this in Facebook yesterday...

One year later...God is still in charge...

Today, the Pink Survivor Tulips return. After narrowly surviving an animal attack last year, they are unimaginably stronger and more beautiful than one could ever hope for.

We can learn from these Tulips...even when we experience those things we cannot possibly survive, God is in charge. He decides when we stay and when we go from this world.

If we are allowed to stay a little longer, to enjoy another spring, to see these Survivor Tulips slowly bloom once more...we can choose how to experience that Heavenly Gift of more time...with worry or fear or angst over when this Heavenly Gift will end...OR...we can breathe in the spring air, feel the long-awaited warmth of the sun on our face, hear the birds serenely singing all around us...

God the amazing artist, who gives us Pink Survivor Tulips, is in charge. We can emerge stronger and more beautiful than one can ever hope for...if we choose to...

    image

Photo below is from April 2018 and a longer Facebook post...

I struggled mightily to plant 60+ tulip bulbs in the fall of 2017 (pre-MBC dx)...my first flowerbed EVER...

    MBC Dx in Dec 2017...

Tulips coming up in Apr 2018...

Red tulip massacre from some animal in Apr 2018...notice the chopped off red tulips in the background of photo below...

I wrote a LONG essay then, about the pink tulips surviving this attack and what a gift it was...

Tulips coming up in Apr 2019...photo above...an even greater gift to still be here to see these miraculous Pink Survivor Tulips coming up again, stronger and more beautiful than anyone could ever hope for...

Jo- those flowers are from Home Depot. I have tried to do seeds and seedlings without much luck. I have made a couple trips to the nurseries and garden centers and collecting perrenials to add to the rock garden and back yard. I have to wait another week or so to put them in (frost risk) but the pansies are going in the pots this weekend.

We found some tiny white crocuses in the church's garden after Mass today. The tulip leaves are showing. A nasty snowstorm is predicted midweek.

I went to TX in the DFW area in the 1980s and used to go on the weekends when I lived there out into the country to see the bluebonnet meadows every April. It is hard to describe to people, beautiful blue carpet of flowers like nothing else you have ever seen!

Two hobbies- the flower is a purple pin cushion.

I actually got buzzed by a real hummingbird today. First time I have seen one, they are early this year. I put out the feeder.

TwoHobbies, don't you just love when the daffodils bloom? They are so cheerful. We also have hyacinths that are now blooming. They're right by the front porch and I can smell the perfume when the door is open.

I have my hummingbird feeder out and am awaiting their arrival. I think I'm hearing them, but no sightings yet. They are expected in this part of PA by mid-April.

I was lucky enough to go to Washington DC during the peak cherry blossoms last week. Here are a couple pics:

Kiki- those pics are beautiful. I saw the cherry blossoms one year back in the 1990's, when I happened to be there to present for a conference. Thanks for sharing!

Kiki, beautifull cherry blossoms!! I was lucky enough to be there for cherry blooming once too... My only trip to the US 🙂

My garden is showing the first spring flowers, but we have a very cold weather right now. I think we will wait about a month to see cherries in bloom.

I love all the beautiful flower and bird pictures...so hopeful for spring...

This beauty is from Breck's. I ordered many tulip bulbs from them and could get less than 10 in the ground due to exhaustion last fall. These all popped up and opened in the past week. They are gorgeous in comparison to those from Lowe's... Hoping I can get more in the ground this fall...

Melissa - my mother so loved those bluebonnets. She was born in Temple, Texas and my sister and one brother and I were born in Fort Worth, Texas. We moved to Louisiana when I was a baby. I live in Tennessee now. Every trip we made back to Texas to see my grandparents my mother made my dad stop on the highway so she could pick those flowers. She even had a beautiful framed picture of bluebonnets. They are gorgeous!

My BIL and Sis and I were stewing on how to get my garden out of the swamp. Neighbor came by, and we decided how to do it. I will have to call the property manager tomorrow and get her OK.

I have a narrow garden because of mobility issues (even pre-Taxol), one end is mint with a piece of siding to keep it in control. The rest of the garden is wet--Tom pointed out how the water from higher areas drains into it, and he was proposing a 2x4 to block the drainage. He didn't think my neighbor's idea of putting a ditch in the middle to hold the drainage would work. Neighbor came by and it became a 4-way discussion. We decided to put grass seed on the regular garden, and put in a new garden on the other side of the mint garden.

He will do the work, so that won't be a problem. It might even be good news for the guys who mow, who were complaining about the narrow strip between the two gardens.

Gumdoctor- aren't those tulips pretty. Lovely color of pink!

Teka- yay for crocuses. What blooms next?

Been continuing to work on yard clean up and pruning. More to go the next few weekends, but good progress so far. We got a cold snap and thus, keeping things carefully covered. My new perennials I have been accumulating are not quite ready to go in to the ground yet. We got a cold snap the past few days, and I woke up to temps in the low 20s today. After this week, we should be past major frost risk.
