Ugh! I had a BMX on Thursday and came home on Friday. Sleep has been my number one challenge. The recliner isn’t working, and I was hoping maybe you guys had some suggestions. I also know that sleep is an important part of my healing and recovery. I just can’t get comfortable or fall into a deep restful sleep.

I’m so sorry to hear this! I haven’t had my surgery yet, but since my DX, I haven’t slept well!

I just wanted to mention an OTC product called “Simply Sleep.” It’s the only kind I could ever tolerate and I take half a dose (1)because I’m sensitive to drugs. But it’s made by Tylenol. It’s a mild sleeping pill but has no Tylenol in it.

You could try it and see if it helps. Sleep is really important!

I hope you have better luck soon!

Hello- when I had my bmx and immediate reconstruction, I had a very difficult time sleeping more than 2-3 hour stretch at a time for about 3 weeks! I was constantly tired. I took low dose ambien when I was real sleep deprived during the first month after surgery. I agree the recliner did not help me either to sleep. I used a extra large wedge pillow from bed bath and beyond that I would lay propped up on in bed sleeping on my back. I'm not a back sleeper at all....but got used to it.

I'm 2 days out and sleeping well. When I have issues with sleep, though, I take an Ativan and it kicks in within 30 min. See if your doc will prescribe that or Valium. You definitely need sleep. I'm sorry you're having trouble.

Those big bed wedge pillows helped me immensely after another kind of big surgery. I'm a side sleeper and they let me sleep on my back, since I couldn't roll over. Made it easier to get in and out of bed too.
