    I need to know that having a bit of raw honey will be okay. 8-days post my last AC. I went to an organic smoothie place, and without thinking, added a bit of raw honey to my smoothie... called the oncologist after it dawned me of “hey, maybe I shouldn’t eat this.” Needless to say, the nurse scared the crap out of me.

    Anyone have raw honey during chemo and are okay? Talk me off the ledge.

    I had raw honey all the time during chemo. You’ll be fine!

    Well, I had AC during summer and had as much raw-raw honey as our bees could produce... I had no idea it could be a problem? I ate it straight from the bee house....

    Raw honey can have botulism bacteria that your body can handle without a problem when your immune system is fine, but can be a risk when your immune system is compromised. Same reason that babies shouldn't have raw honey. I had plenty of raw honey during chemo, but my white blood cell count never dropped at all. If your counts are low you might want to stay away from it to be safe.

    I am still freaking out about this - it may be the pregnancy hormones, I do not know.

    If botulism is the concern, I think symptoms normally appear within 36 hours, so...you are clearing that window.
