Perimenopause, Menopause and Periods on Tamoxifen
Hi All... I have been on Tamoxifen for 6.5 years now. I would have a light perod maybe once or twice each year and then NOTHING the last 1.5 years. Thought I was done. I am 54.
Woke up yesterday to a Full Blown heavy period. I am nervous. Anyone with similar experience. Why did I suddenly have this after not having one for almost 2 years. ?

Allenan, I haven't been on the T as long as you, only 9 months. 4 months in I had what i termed the "biblical period" - literally 40 days. That set off an endometrial biopsy and pelvic ultrasound. Seems like my perimenopausal body had decided to clean house. Hopefully that is a similar case for you, but I would definitely check with your Gyn. It could just simply be your body going through a hormonal cycle even at age 54. There is a reason you aren't considered menopausal until you have gone an entire year without a period. The tamoxifen makes it doubly hard to figure out where you are.
I still struggle with some intermittent spotting. My Gyn tells me not an issue since I am not post menopausal yet. She will want to check me if I have a heavier bleed. Then it will be biopsy, ultrasound. Fun stuff isn't it?

Thanks for responding. Spoke to GYN. She wants to do biopsy. Yikes. I had one in 2015 after a heavy period. She said my endo lining was greater than 5mm at the time. it was 7mm. I would get Transvag every year but did not last year. Was sure i did but she said last TV US was in 2017 and lining was 9mm. I think my body is cleani g house. This feels like my last hurrah for a period. Trying not to read too much into it. Ive been exercising , losing weight and eating healthier. Two day b4 it came i mistaken had 3x the vitamins i should have had. Dont know if my body is just responding to all the changes i made since January.

Great news indeed!

I had that happen to me in March after four years of no period. Mine was also negative. It's just something that happens on tamoxifen...
