Targeted Nutrition During Radiation
Hi All,
I'm in week 4 of six weeks and now starting to get super weak, nauseous and no appetite. Is anyone supplementing with anything healthy & helpful? Bone broth? Protein shakes? Particular juice blends? I don't feel like having any solids so any liquid type recommendations would be great
Organic if possible. Thank you! I have yet to secure an appointment with the nutritionist as it was denied for Cancer so we're trying for obesity as I am technically fat ![]()

This might not help much but I became a big believer in protein while I was in chemo. I cut back on it during rads but I really think it just helps our blood, helps our bodies recover, . . . Could you do ground beef? Protein shakes? Eggs in some form? (Weird thing but I had cut back significantly and was having issues with Herceptin. I started eating red meat for one or two nights before treatment and have felt much better.)

Thank you Ingerp. I am eating proteins but probaly not as much or as often as I should be. Eggs, meats and some shakes but nothing regimented and some days I just have avo toast and a protein shake and water. I think I need to be on a definite plan that I don't stray from to feel better until I get through all this.

FWIW, during chemo I had red meat 5-6 times a week, plus an egg every day, plus a protein shake every day. (Not to mention the ice cream I was craving--maybe treat this like when you're pregnant and eat what appeals to you?)

Oh I've been giving into cravings way too much- Not the way I want to go
Thanks for the response. -
I was told to eat at least 90 grams of protein a day during rads, split up into four meals. For me that was an enormous amount of protein and I couldn't achieve it without having protein shakes and eating more than I really wanted. I wound up gaining a few pounds. Oh well.

I was given no information about food to eat during radiation so this is very interesting. Has anyone felt that protein shakes give more energy or are they to build ip your body ? I'm on day seven of sixteen treatments . I've been eating a lot more vegetables and fruuts whivh seems opposite o this.

I remember being told - perhaps by the radiation nurse - to eat plenty of protein during treatment weeks, and to drink lots of water. The only effect rads had on my appetite was that I got more hungry than usual.
