Working from home after BM -- suggestions

I'll be having likely bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction, so I hope for one week of home-based recovery. All my work is on laptop. I'm a solo self-employed parent paying for kid college and all my own expenses, with no deep pockets/accounts to borrow from, so stopping work even for a week is not an option. My business clients are not supposed to know I'm having cancer surgery ). Anyone else managed to maintain your online work presence from home during first week after BM?

If so, could you share tips? Laptop bed support, how difficult it is to type, etc. Would greatly appreciate all you can share.

I didn't start Teleworking until the third week and even then it was difficult. I had to put pillows under my arms to help with support and I tired easily. First week I was pretty much out of it and there was no way I could work especially with having drains and the medications make you drowsy. Now everyone is different and who is not to say you can't.

    Good luck!

    Hi ed11,

People are so different so you never know. But I will say, take that week of R&R very seriously. Everyone's' pain and energy thresholds are different and I was out and walking, on my laptop after the first week BUT- I still took it VERY easy, worked from bed, slept A LOT and did not overdo it. I'm two months past my mastectomy and in my last weeks of radiation and still have days that kick my ass HARD. Eating and drinking extremely well helps. I lived off avocado toast and pressed juice and it was great. And PLEASE accept help that week. It's so important to just stay in bed as much as you can :) Sending good thoughts!

Thank you so much, it helps a LOT. Yes, I am planning on just enough to maintain my online presence. Like literally be present at meetings and click here and there, not a major project work. Hope I'll be able to type ). Thinking of laptop stand over the bed...

I just used pillows on my lap and at my sides and trays. Made it all easy to get too and kept that T-Rex thing happening. You should totally be able to type. And you're welcome. For what it's worth, the surgery and recovery were not as bad as I thought it would be. BUT- That's just me so I don't want to build false hope. My surgeons gave me plenty of good stuff too like Botox and I think Celebrex to ease the pain right after.
