Might have Endometrial Cancer after taking tamoxifen

Options

Hey everyone.31 F. ER+ Her2+ Proj - IDC stage II here. Been on tamoxifen 6 months. Finished A/C +T and Rads. Currently on Herceptin/Perjeta.

Experiencing dark brown vaginal discharge/spotting. Doctor says it could be a sign of an endometrial cancer, since Tamoxifen increases the risk. Did a biopsy today. Will have to wait 7-10 days for results. Feeling anxious and scared and a little sick thinking about it, because if it is cancer, I’ll have to get my uterus removed.

Doesn’t help that doctor spilled some of the sample on the chair and had to scoop it back in with, “Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be sterile. That makes me feel great.

Anyone else go through this

Ew, I would find another doctor ASAP. That's gross and unprofessional.

I don't know your age, but I had endometrial cancer years ago and had the full bells and whistles hysterectomy. I was 58 (and still pre-menopausal!), so I was kind of relieved to get rid of those body parts. If I had been still of child-bearing age, it would be different.

It is good to know your doctor is checking. My SIL's doctor dropped the ball because the risk is small he didn't monitor her.

I believe the risk for endometrial cancer is really small if you are premenopausal. Did you get a pelvic ultrasound? Your body is still producing a lot of estrogen unless you have had your ovaries removed. I am really glad your Gyn is watching you and checking. Sorry you have to have the biopsy and associated wait for results. I, too, am on T, and have the brownish discharge. My Gyn isn't worried about it unless I have a larger amount of bleeding. Best of luck on your results.

I was not completely through menopause when I started on Tamoxifen and have had several periods (often dark) since being on it. Every time this happens my Ob-Gyn will do an endometriel biopsy to make sure it's not cancer and so far it hasn't been! Maybe that's all that's going on for your body too.

I am post menopausal for 2+ years. I took Tamoxifen 1 year. Stopped in January - Started Anastrozole Feb 1st. I have been spotting for 4 weeks straight. Have a trans-vaginal ultrasound scheduled for next Friday. I'm scared to say the least.
