Nobody took me seriously.

I felt a lump when I was 22. Was immediately on the ball and went to the doctor. He scheduled me an ultrasound. Results came back inconclusive. Was scheduled a needle biopsy. The needle biopsy doctor told me he didnt think I needed it and sent me on my way. Turned 23. I got pregnant. Had my beautiful son. Then noticed more lumps while attempting breastfeeding. Went to the doctor. Got another ultrasound. Results inconclusive. Went to a breast care center. Got another ultrasound. Results inconclusive. But the breast care center doctor told me she really didnt think it was anything because I was so young. Turned 24. Had a lot of lumps and so much pain. Got another ultrasound. Results inconclusive. They had me wait 6 months so they could compare. Turned 25. Lost over 60lbs and now underweight. Got another ultrasound. Results showed a few cysts but some that are not cysts. Ultrasound tech went and got a doctor I had not seen before to look at the weird lumps on the screen. That doctor looked me straight in the eye and said it could be something. He said he wanted to wait another six months for another ultrasound and then a mammogram. My primary doctor moved away. Went to a new primary doctor today. She felt my lumps. Started crying... she told me I needed to go somewhere else since they havent been taking me seriously. Said there's so many lumps (which I obviously know). Blood work in the morning and getting set up at a different breast care center. Cant even sleep tonight because there's so much pain. Feel like I cant breathe.. I'm so confused on why this is happening and what is going on with my body. I cant think straight. My son only has me.. I'm the absolute only family he has. This cannot happen. Lumps are covering my entire chest and my armpits. What's hurting right now is the lumps going down on my ribs. I dont know if its related, but my neck muscles are very stiff and hurt quite badly also. Really wish I wasnt so stubborn and actually filled my prescription of pain medication.
I feel like I've been waiting for so long to find out. It's so hard because I've became used to waiting. Now I feel like it's going to blindside me when I find out..

sounds like you have very fibrocystic breasts. Pain can be associated with that. Hope you get answers soon.

But they have taken you seriously, or else you would not have had all those ultrasounds. What do your ultrasound reports say? It sounds like they have identified benign findings, or you would have been referred for biopsy. It would be extremely unusual for breast cancer to present as lumps all over your chest and both armpits

This must be so scary! I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s impossible for me to say it isn’t/is breast cancer but obviously it’s something! The fact remains that young women your age are routinely told their breast issues are nothing to worry about and sent on their way. This goes for pain issues as well. It sucks, but it forces us to be advocates for ourselves. The fact that you have palpable lumps all over your chest, axillary, breast, and rib area that cause pain, sounds serious to me. Serious in that it’s obviously not normal and is causing a lot of distress.
What do you mean when you say all of your US came back inconclusive? In my experience, they either say yup we know what that is and it’s nothing to worry about, or they watch and wait for six months then try other testing. If at the end of that six months they still don’t know or it’s still an issue, they’ll usually biopsy it. Especially if it’s causing so much pain and they can’t really tell what it is. Regardless if this IS cancer, the fact that you’ve spent so long with no answers and no real treatment is shameful. You have to be firm with them! Get answers for yourself. Drs for the most part try their best I think, but they are not fallible and make mistakes. Especially when they have prejudged you as someone who is young and therefore must be healthy. Sounds like you have a new dr who is advocating for you. Go to the new breast center and demand answers! There is all kinds of testing they can do to help determine what the issue is. I’m so sorry you’re going through this and hope you get some answers soon. Let us know what happens after your appt with the breast center.

can I ask what insurance you have? I ask this because many times I’ve heard that in some areas, those with Medicaid have been made to wait or not even offered certain expensive testing due to low probability of positive results, especiallyif they are viewed as young and healthy.
