Young mom Cancer scare
Hi everyone!
I'm 31 years old right now, when I was 19 I just accidentally noticed that my ribcage in my right breast is felt like swollen/concave I don't know how to describe it but literraly I can felt it with my hand if I touch it when I'm sitting down and not raising my arm as the usual BSE. It felt like my ribcage is covered by palpable elongated hard tissues . Since then I went back and forth to the doctors but just dismissed me everytime because they can't felt it thru physical exam, well I insisted it can't really be felt if I'm lying down and raising my arm but felt it literally when I'm sitting up right. They just said it is your ribcage but my question was really, if it just a ribcage then how come I can literally felt it (like a big lump) and not the other? Fast forward when I was 23 yrs.old I started to feel pain in that area and one doctor finally took me seriously, she ordered US and US SHOWED:
A FAIRLY-DEFINED ELONGATED SOLID HYPOECHOIC FOCUS EMBEDDED IN THE MAMMARY ZONE OF THE RIGHT BREAST APPROXIMATELY MEASURING 1.93X1.50X.90CM (LWT),7-8 O'CLOCK POSITION, 4CM FROM THE NIPPLE LINE.
She referred me to the breast surgeon and when the BS checked on me physically ofcouse lying down he can't felt it and ordered me another US himself like 1 week apart and my second US didn't show anything. So he just adviced me to just keep an eye on it, and I ask him what about the breast pain he just assured me cancer doesn't hurt.
For 8 years I have this pain in my right breast on and off, im pretty sure its not cyclical as it is almost everyday and 4 years ago the pain radiated to my right upper back, shoulder, and arm. I went to another BS and voice out my concern who ordered mammo and US which came back all normal again. She assured me that everything was fine, that whatever I said that I can be felt is just a ribcage and sometimes our body is not perfectly in proportion blah blah. And SHE TOLD ME LET'S ASSUME THAT IT IS CANCER AND LET IT SIT THERE FOR 9 YEARS, SHE SAID I'M PRETTY SURE YOU'RE DEAD NOW. I insisted for mri but she said the problem with mri is it will just give you false positive. I'm 31 yrs.old now, 12 years after I discovered that lump on my ribacage and I have 2 young kids (2 and 5mos.).but the thought of breast cancer that has spread always scare me, considering I'm having this pain in my right breast, stabbing pain right upper back, right shoulder and arm on and off almost everyday for 4 years now.
My questions are:
1.) I should believe the BS right that if it is Breast Cancer I should probably dead now, it's been 12 years since I discovered that weird lump attached to my ribcage?
2.) Is that possible that one of our ribcage is off like literally palpable (in my case like covered with hard elongated tissue, and not the other?
3.) How come my first US it did show up my area of concern, if it is just really a ribcage?
Thank you all!

I think if your posture is even imperceptibly off, it can cause weird aches and pains. It could be just cartilage that gets irritated or inflamed.

Thank you for your response!
I hope so, it is just so hard living your life with constant fear and no definite answer. Worst is you can almost feel it everyday and watching your young children, can't help not to think of the worst. I just find comfort to what the doctor told me that if its cancer and been there for 12 years now. You are dead now. Sigh...

Have you had any x-rays of your ribs? Neck? Have you seen a neurologist?

I think if you’re truly worried , you should push for more testing. I was brushed off for two years, and as you can see from my signature below , that a lot of my inconclusives, lead to my diagnosis.. finally. I wish I would have pushed Harder. But I am on the rarer side of things so it is likely you’re okay. I am 31 as well. Like I said youre probably okay but your peace of mind is import

Djmammo
NO, I haven't had x-ray of my ribs or neck, just the chest x-ray. Is it possible that it will show up on just x-ray?
I'm planning to go back to my gp and voice out my concern again, Do you think breast mri will be better? I've been so anxious this couple of weeks as the back pain is no joke anymore, sometimes would wake me up at the middle of the night.
As a healthcare professional yourself Sir djmammo should I believe what the BS Doctor told me that it's not cancer because its been there for 12 years now despite all the symtoms I am experiencing right now?
Thank you so much Sir!

If everyone thinks it might be related to your rib, I would have thought a set of rib films would be in order.
Some of the pain sound like ti might be referred pain. HAve you had a neck injury, bad disk or arthritic findings in your neck?
If a breast finding is stable for two years we feel its probably benign. 12 years should be better.
Lumps in the bresat do not show up on routine chest x-rays
