I’m Dwelling, Please Share
Last fall, I thought I could finally stop worrying. After 2 years of watching and regular mammograms and ultrasounds, I had a right breast excisional biopsy. It came back as non cancerous and I was scheduled for a 6th month follow up mammogram. I honestly thought this would be simple and reassuring. I’m 35 and I expected to be put on the regular monitoring for someone my age. At the 6 month mammogram they immediately called me back for more images and then an ultrasound. This time for a new area of concern (at least to me). Based on the results (focal asymmetry with slightly angulated margins, correlated to a 2017 image but significantly more prominent . It is slightly more prominent on compressed views but not correlated on ultrasound). I’m scheduled for a breast MRI on April 8th. April 8th seems so far away and I keep letting myself think the worst although I know statistically I know it’s unlikely to be cancer. My husband doesn’t understand and just says it is what it is and that I shouldn’t think about it. My Mom seems more worried than I am despite me downplaying it as much as possible and saying that everything is fine.
Has anyone had similar test results? How do you cope with this waiting? Thank you in advanc

Hi Cunninghsm07-
We want to welcome you to our community! We're so sorry you find yourself here with this worry. We know that the regular monitoring is incredibly helpful, but it can also feel like a weight on your shoulders. We also know how hard it is to not think or worry about it! Hopefully you're able to find support here. Try to stay as busy as possible between now and April 8, it will be here before you know it and we hope you're able to put this all behind you!

Thank you so much. Reading other people’s posts has been really helpful and am thankful for this site. I don’t feel as alone and I did when talking to my husband and Mom.

so sorry you have a wait in front of you. It is difficult. I’m 38 and on my second round of biopsy. My body keeps growing tumors. I’ll admit it’s super scary and it’s hard to wait for answers. Just try to keep busy and try not to do too much research

MsRukia, thank you. I hope that your second biopsy brings good news. Staying busy is helpful. My house is clean as a result of needing to stay busy, so there’s my lemon aid out of lemons strong.

My partner caught me dwelling yesterday and had to redirect me. All I can do is wait. Hopefully for both of us we are benign

May I ask what your experience was with the excisional biopsy? I am due for one tomorrow and I go between feeling scared and not.

Cecyc- I was pretty nervous but the staff was great and had me laughing and distracted. I got to talk with the anesthesiologist and the breast surgeon before the surgery. They gave me medication to sedate me a bit before they actually brought me into the OR which helped take the edge off. Once I was in the OR, everything happened so quickly and I remember there being a bunch of people there. They quickly got me positioned on the table and applied the monitoring equipment. The last thing I remember was the, putting the 02 mask on me and then I woke up recovery. They started with only twilight sedation but I guess my 02 saturations dropped and then they had to switch me to general anesthesia. When I woke up, I was so cold and kept asking for blankets. I would recommend getting a dose of the pain meds before you leave the hospital day surgery to make sure you tolerate it okay. Ice should be your best friend and follow their advice on exerting yourself. They gave me 10 pain meds to take home and I ended up using them alll. I think I had been doing too much moving and lifting. My scar healed quickly and only had the surgical glue over it (no stitches). You will do Great tomorrow but it’s okay to feel worried,
