NEED ADVICE

Options

I just was diagnosed with mets to lungs. I was doing fine thought I was being strong but it hit me hard yesterday. Today I tell my kids. My doctor is filling out form for Ibrance to be approved by drug company. So now I wait. Before this all was found I was taking a girls trip but we cancelled. Now we are thinkoing to go now before treatments start. I'm afraid I might have breakdowns or not enjoy myself. We are going to Punta Cana DR so I'm thinking it will be a nice break to get away from it all but not sure. Anyone gone through this or have any advice for me??????

thanks pip

Pippy, I'm sorry about your Mets. It's very normal that you are feeling overwhelmed now. Take the time you need to come to grips, but don't miss out on a fun trip! I found ibrance to be a very easy drug. I'm 7 years into Mets and still working FT and have a mostly normal life with the exception of all the doctor appts. Once you get started on a treatment your emotional state will greatly improve. I don't know how long it's going to take for the ibrance to get approved, but maybe he could have you start letrozole while you are waiting, so you could at least be on a treatment. Letrozole was my first treatment and it worked for two years. Ibrance was not available then. Also what if the time for the trip comes and goes and you still don't have the ibrance! I would go! Maybe you could ask the doctor about the timing and maybe you could ask for some Ativan so when it's needed you can enjoy the trip without breakdowns!

Never pass up a girls trip. Do not let cancer steal that from you. Take the trip. Show cancer you are still going to live. It is ok to break down. You are with friends. Friends will lift you up

Nothing makes me feel better than to swim in the warm ocean waters.

Oh, pip, GO. Even if you have breakdowns, take this trip for your own healing. When I was diagnosed, we delayed my mastectomy for a week to take a trip to Aruba and I am so thankful we did. We snorkeled and ate great seafood and lazed around by the ocean and those memories held me through the five surgeries and chemo. I can't speak to starting treatment for mets, but when I read your post, everything in me wanted to hear that you go and revel in every minute of that trip.

When I was diagnosed, my MO told me she was totally fine with me taking a vacation before chemo started. After treatment, somany people don’t get scans but wait for symptoms of progression. I really think you have time to spend with your friends. I personally hope that you go and make wonderful memories!

Hi pippy..when I was first diagnosed 2005 I was also planning a Punta Cana vacation with my daughter. We didn't go . We went the following year.

Now I have Mets in my lungs and in some other areas diagnosed 4 months ago.

My Oncologist put me on Ibrance I take the pill for 3 weeks and off for one. I'm on my third cycle already and absolutely I have no SE except the thinning of the hair.

    Wishing you peace

    What a hard dx.

I was just diagnosed with a local recurrence and have an Mx and more chemo in my future.

I'm keeping all of my travel plans - particularly an upcoming girls trip. I will be on chemo but I figure, if I'm tired, I can opt out of a few things. It's important to go if you feel up to it physically. A change of scenery might be just what you need. Wishing you well.
