Had stereotactic bx. Developed a large hematoma. Pathology DCIS. Had lumpectomy. She cleaned out the hematoma at this time. The clip however was free floating in the hematoma. She was still able to get the specimen, based on location on mammogram up on pics during surgery and scarring from bx. Pathology showed she got it all with clean margins. Now I'm worried that id clip was free floating, so could cancer cells. And /or the clip may have " dragged" the cancer cells elsewhere. Any thoughts/ encouragement would be greatly appreciated. As I also suffer from health anxiety. And I have gone to the dark side

Shocked

Anybody had clip move from location and not had a recurrence?

Thanks everyone... you have been a comfrt on this journey... bless you all !!

The good news is that you had DCIS. To my understanding (based on 13 years reading up on this), DCIS cells don't become invasive just because they are moved into the breast tissue.

DCIS cells thrive and spread when they exist within the duct. DCIS cells require a change at the molecular level to evolve into an invasive cancer. Once that happens, the cell itself has developed the ability to break through the duct wall and survive and thrive within the open breast tissue. What this means is that if DCIS cells from the duct are dragged into the breast tissue, they will simply die off on their own because they are no longer within the environment of the duct and have not undergone this molecular change that allows them to survive in the breast tissue.
