Has anyone had a lump or mass (non-painful) that is more flat feeling than round like a marble? If so, what did it end up being?

Yes, I had a mass that felt long to me and very hard.

Just got my results today that it is a focal adenosis. This is a benign condition that may or may not increase my BC risk (my doc said it would not, but DR. Google disagrees).

But, from all the frantic reading I did as I was getting diagnosed, I know that lumps can be many different shapes. Please get it checked out.

K_Lee, what you describe could just be an area of thickened, bumpy breast tissue.  My breasts have always had areas that feel that way - and in my case, it's just normal breast tissue. This sort of thing is quite common for those of us who have fibrocystic breasts - which is about 60% of all women. My symptoms started when I was a teenager but for most women, the symptoms start when they are in their 30s.

Is this something that has newly developed?  Have you seen a doctor yet?

Here is some information about fibrocystic breast condition:

    Symptoms can include:

    • Pain or discomfort in both breasts
    • The pain commonly comes and goes with the period, but can last through the whole month
    • Breasts that feel full, swollen, and heavy
    • Pain or discomfort under the arms
    • Thick or lumpy breasts

Misha, your doctor is correct.  Sclerosing adenosis slightly increases breast cancer risk but focal adenosis does not.  Please be careful with Dr. Google.  It's very easy to scare yourself - and others - with information that's not correct.

Beesie, this is something new for me.  Half of the mass has clear and easy to feel definate edges but the rest of the mass just kind of merges with the rest of the breast so I can't really get a good feel of the size of it.  Next to it, almost right next to it, is a pea sized hard lump.  I'm not really sure if its connected to the flat mass or not.

I also have a couple clusters of enlarged lymph nodes in my armpit (same side that has breast lump) which kind of concerns me.  Like the mass, these do not hurt.  I only know they are there because I have a visible lump in my armpit and when I feel around on it I can feel the lymph nodes.

I plan on seeing a BS but can't go for 2 more weeks (insurance purposes)

Hi, do you have any updates? I’m feeling exactly the same but I am not confident of going to the clinic just yet. Fearing a little scared because i just passed 20 years old

Dear Mintcandy, welcome to Breastcancer.org! This is a very old thread

We understand you are worried but unfortunately this thread has been quiet since 2013, so it's unlikely you'll get responses from the original poster. We would suggest you join in some of the newer threads which are more active, or sending K_Lee a private message. Let us know if you need help with that!

Please, remember that even when cancer at your age is very rare, all changes in your breast should be checked by a doctor, so we would recommend you get an appointment with your family doctor. And please let us know how it goes!

    Best,
