Second biopsy - worried about pain
I had a biopsy using ultrasound the Saturday before last and it has been bruised but not too sore (that area is confined DCIS. On Thursday I go in to have another area biopsied using mammogram as it is deeper and I’m worried about the pain. I have fibromyalgia so am often very sensitive and sore, and the earlier mammogram really hurt. I can’t imagine I’ll cope with the time it takes to do the biopsy while being clamped in that machine. I’m thinking of taking paracetamol and tramadol together beforehand to help me get through it.
Might this help - or any other ideas from those of you who have been through this?
Thanks!

If it were me I would try to have an anxiety med on board... I won't do anything like that without Ativan anymore.
I don't know if they will but maybe if they give you a numbing shot before squashing you up... maybe that would help? I don't know if they will though.

thanks for the advice gb2115, I will look into something for anxiety. I think they will numb the area of the biopsy with local anaesthetic so I guess that will help a bit. I’m probably working myself up about it and should try not to worry so much.

FrenchPorche,
I was a person with no anxiety issues before cancer. Now I have them pretty much at every medical encounter. My therapist thinks this is completely normal. Don't blame yourself for worrying too much -- cancer and everything that comes with is terrifying! There is a reason they prescribe Ativan to all of us. I'd see if you can get something to help ease your worry rather than try to tough it out.
Another resource that has been super helpful to me (listened to these in many a waiting room) is a set of meditations for people with cancer at thisiskara.com.
Best wishes to you.

thank you so much for the advice!

Well the biopsy is done. It was horrific but I got through it. I didn’t have any Ativan but I vaped some cbd beforehand which I think helped me not to panic. Hopefully whatever happens next will be under general anaesthetic so I won’t be aware of what’s going on! :-
