pain in my finger??!!!!

Options
I have an excruciating pain in the tippy-tip of my middle finger. It feels like I sprained it, bruised it, broke it. It is swollen. It's been like this for about 2 weeks now.

Of course, any ache and pain freaks me out now. Anyone here know what this may be? Is it arthritis? Or is it something scary. What doctor do I call?

Tell me not to worry, because that is what I do.
Love and prayers, Debbie

I wonder if you have an infection in your nail bed?

If the pain is worst at the bend in your"tippy tip" then arthritis the likely cause. Try soaking your hand in nice hot water and taking and Advil. OA is most common but sometimes gout can happen in small joints of the hand. It would be an unusual location for mets. If the pain is worst in the soft part of your fingertip then it could be infected. Maybe since it has passed the "two week " mark it is time to have it checked out.

No, I'm not on an AI, Pam.

I took a really hot shower today, and my finger felt better. Then when I was running errands this morning, I became aware of the pain again. The pain is actually in the joint and not the nail bed.
Also, I still take lots of vicoden because of other pain I deal with, and alternate with Advil already (dealing with inflamation in the axillary scar tissue). It helps the pain but doesn't stop it.

I called today and made an appointment (not till Friday?!?!). That was the soonest they would take me. I asked if I needed to see him or another doctor and he said to see him first (family doctor). I just know I am going to be bounced around from doctor to doctor.

Thanks, Ladies! Love and prayers, Deb

I have a new pain and swelling at the last joint of my index finger. It bulges a little and feels tender/bruised. slightly red. My thumbs don't bend quite as far as they used to. I am going to wait till my next onc appointment (March 3) to show him but I suspect arthritis. If you see your doc before then, bandteacher, can you come post what he said? I will too
    Luv, doc

    Deb,

I think it's good to start with your PCP for those symptoms; he/she should be able to point you in the right direction if you need to be sent on.

My onc says that breats cancer almost always metastisizes to the same spots - and the little finger isn't one of them. Cancer likes big bones with lots of blood supply. It would be extremely rare for the first site of mets to be a distant bone.

Have you over used your hand lately? I've been a crafter for years, and sometimes when I over used my hand, I would get a finger pain in the joint, sometimes with swelling. Kate
