Explant after mastectomy

Options

I am looking to have my implants removed after 5 years of Breast Implant Illness as well as pain and discomfort. I am looking to find stories from other women who have had this done. I am concerned about the extent of this operation because the implants are under the muscle. I have read that the capsule has to be scraped from the ribcage and the chest muscle may need to be repaired. Is this the case and is it as bad as it sounds? I am also wondering what the recovery is like.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am 2 years post Bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction (on top of muscles). I lived through hellish days due to tissue expanders, each breast incisions open up (at different times),  I have post mastectomy pain disorder (intercostal nerve block helped) and now capsular contraction issues. I am done mentally and physically. I go April 1st to see Plastic Surgeon. He will want to revise (take out implants and clean up). But I am requesting to go flat. I have never had a day without pain or discomfort. I truly think my body has been rejecting the entire procedure. I do not regret having mastectomy, but I question my decision to reconstruct. Thousands of women have gone done this road without issues. I just am not that lucky. I just wanted to look good in my clothes with prosthetics. But I am athletic, I think being flat is a better alternative to this heavy, painful disaster on my chest. I'll keep you posted.
