Hi all, I had an excision back in August for a radial scar (it was benign). Yesterday I went to my 6 month post-op mammogram for a new baseline reading. When I got there the technician was telling me how we'd do the mammogram, then I won't have to get another one til I'm 40! (I'm 29). I said that sounds great, let's do this!

Next thing I know the doctor is asking her to take more pictures, then wants an ultrasound, long story short I ended up leaving with a biopsy appointment for 2 days later which is tomorrow morning.

I'm no doctor but the mass was in the same area the other one was. I'm thinking it MUST have to do with dead cells or something as a result of the excision. Because what are the chances, right? Has anyone had something similar happen after excision?

I am going through almost the exact same thing. I had a Radial Scar excised almost a year ago. The U/S I had at my 6 month follow up showed 2 lesions in the (11:30 and 12:00) areas--which is where they initially excised the RS. I also have a new irregular shaped lesion on the right breast.

I go back to the DAU (diagnostic assessment unit) on Friday for another "detailed" U/S and mammography (I get yearly MRI's because I'm deemed to be at high risk for developing cancer after I did genetic testing). Then I will hopefully know more because I too feel in the dark. Please let me know how you make out

hi ladies-I had a radial scar diagnosis a year ago too. I had my follow up mammogram in July to get another baseline of my right breast. All was good. I am now scheduled to have my yearly mammogram on Tuesday and I am so worried something else will show up. I’m already having anxiety about my mammogram because of what happened last year. I’m trying to think positively but it is so hard

Blueberry89 I pray the mass seen on your mammogram is nothing to worry about, like scar tissue or something benign.

Shelbybelbyboo I pray your lesions are benign and/or just scar tissue from the RS.

Please keep me posted on how you both make out! Praying for you both!

    hello and good evening,

I went to my appointment and they found that the one lesion had completely disappeared and the other one showed subtle growth (I think by 2mm so nothing major) They did however find a 1.4cmx8mm partially obscured mass in the right breast. I found this out a few days after my initial follow up appointment from imaging. I am now going to see my doctor on Wednesday to see what follow up will be. My BIRADS score for this was 0--needs additional imaging.

Just a question for you both, since your excision did either of you develop over time a bruise like mark over the excision/scar? This showed up for me almost a year later and has gradually deepened color, plus massive indentation that was not nearly as bad as 6 months ago.

I had bruising initially but nothing since the RS excision. I also had an indentation in my breast after surgery but it has remained the same. Sometimes I have some tingling in the breast around the surgery area. I am going to ask my surgeon when I see her in a March if it is “normal” or not. Have you ever experienced any tingling where your R.S. was excised? Wishing you luck at your dr appointment! Fingers crossed the new finding on your mammographyis nothing to worry about. Keep us posted.

I had experienced tingling in the area for a few months after. I went back to the breast surgeon and she prescribed some nerve pain medication for me. It stopped for me about 3 1/2 months after my excision. I now feel pain on the breast where the RS up to the armpit area (my RS was at the 12 o'clock area)

I will update after I see my doctor on Wednesday the 27th :) although I can almost guarantee more spot compression on mammogram and an ultrasound. Hopefully it's just something minor

I went to my doctor yesterday who has ordered a bilateral ultrasound and mammogram additional views. On exam he noted he felt 3 lumps on my left side and one on the right side. My left axillary area is also swollen as he noted but he could feel no definite mass.

I go this afternoon for my imaging so I probably won't hear anything back until Monday or Tuesday of next week. To be honest I'm not overly concerned because I've went through this many times already and have had quite a few biopsies as well, so theres no point of worrying until I hear otherwise :)

How did your mammogram go on Tuesday worried18?

It's a complex papillary lesion of 1.1 cm. The surgeon said if it's under 1 cm they usually just leave it. It figures, just my luck! I'm in the process of scheduling a surgery date. Ugh, I thought this was all over. Oh and my boob is hurting after that biopsy.

She thinks it may have been there before and they just didn't see it because the radial scar was in the way before. No way to know for certain, though. What a pain in the butt!!

I had additional imaging done yesterday and there are a "few" areas of concern (I dont have the report yet, but my dr called me an hour ago) and he wants me to go see the oncologist I saw when I had the lumpectomy. She will then determine the appropriate course of action. I see her March 13th.

I asked him what the report showed and he told me there were a few lesions on the left side and an area of architectural distortion, on the right side there is a spiculated mass with adjacent architectural distortion and an area of calcifications. He told me he spoke to the radiologist who noted it to me a BIRADS 4c.

This, although more so this time, is what happened with the RS I had excised. It had distortion, and was actually a considerable size. So I'm hoping it's just a few RS again.

Blueberry89 did the Dr recommend follow up in 6 months?

That will probably be what happens after the excision since it was like that last time..I still need to schedule it though

Shelbybelbyboo- I’m sorry you are going through this again! Sending positive thoughts and prayers it is just a RS again.

I had my screening mammogram on Tuesday. I have been impatiently/ nervously waiting to hear back re: my mammogram. Last year i heard back 4 days after my mammogram so Monday will be day 4 so I’m praying nothing is found.

blueberry89-hope you are feeling better after the biopsy. Good luck with your surgery- did you schedule it?

worried18 I always find it an anxious time after getting another mammogram because as you know, after having an abnormal screening prior it just worries you everytime thereafter. I hope you get a clean report back from your mammogram 😊

I see the breast surgeon on March 13th. My actual reports still have not been uploaded (it takes 15 days for them to upload reports once they are finalized) so I wont be able to get them until after my appointment next week.

I also called the high risk screening councillor who saw me at Sunnybrook (the other hospital I went to) and she wants to see me on March 21st so I should know more soon. When I spoke with her last time she said that once I turned 35 (in a year) they would think about putting me on Tamoxifen (I believe it was). I had a hysterectomy years back and my Gyn doctor wanted to put me on hormones (due to issues with my remaining ovary) but obviously that's a huge no from the high risk doctor at breast centre . I've got a ton of specialists involved in my care and one issue directly impacts the other. It's hard at times

Waiting is so hard. So you won't have your results until the week after next?

I wont have the full imaging report until at least the 14th or 15th I believe. I wont know everything for a few weeks. It may be just me but that seems so long. Dont get me wrong the doctors and hospital are great but it really cranks up the anxiety level.

Now I know on the screen I saw what looked to me like a spider (the centre was white but it looked like it had legs protruding from it). I believe that's the spiculated mass on the right side. I may not know how to read images but I tell you that looked 100% off with the surrounding tissue

Shelbybelbyboo- did you receive your imaging report? What did the breast surgeon say when you saw him/ her on the 13th?

BTW- I saw my breast surgeon on Tuesday who had my mammography report and all was good. I was so relieved. it was a stressful week waiting and wondering.

I know they do not post it for a couple weeks, but can you pick up a copy in person sooner? I always do that.

I went to Southlake yesterday (going to oncologist on the 21st). They did additional imaging the breast doctor said there were multiple concerns bilaterally. From additional imaging they want to do bilateral biopsies, but I'm choosing to have them done at the same hospital where I had my lumpectomy. She seemed very concerned especially about the grouped pleomorphic calcifications and the mass that has adjacent distortion (I wrote down a few things she was saying). I asked through health records for copies of my reports I should get them Monday. The way they keep talking I dont think it's going to turn out favorably but through past history it wasn't as bad as they thought.

What about calcifications are a concern? I truly dont know too much about this
