Pain only
Hi all, sorry for being a worry head but would be great to get some thoughts.... For the last 2 weeks I have pain in one spot in my left breast, upper middle part. I only feel it when I press against it or when I got a hug from my dad or when I picked up my 2 year old and she pressed against it... It's a very sharp burning pain that generally goes straight away once no longer pressure applied. I thought absolutely nothing of it at first then after it happened a few times and it really is so sore and not the normal feeling at all I googled it. It doesn't feel like any of the usual causes of breast pain. The only thing I couldn't dismiss straight away was maybe IBC?? Now I'm not at all prone to hysterics, I'm a nurse and very practical about things! Its my only symptom, no skin changes, swelling, redness, rash or any lumps so I'm pretty certain it's nothing yet here I am! Going to go to Dr tomorrow and in the meantime trying to figure out what it might be! Thanks so much for reading, any thoughts appreciated! And so sorry for all the worrying here it really is not a nice feeling.

Hi there, Mamer4-
We're so sorry you find yourself here with this worry, we know it's concerning! In the absence of skin changes, it would be unlikely for what you've described to be IBC. IBC also progresses extremely fast, sometimes in a matter of days. It's good you're getting it checked out, please keep us posted!

I agree that it does not sound like IBC, but I do want to mention that “cancer doesn’t hurt” is a myth. I believe it is rare but some times a tumor can start to cause pain, although the pain I had was a shooting pain and did not depend on pressure as you have described. Yours might be muscular, but I am glad you are getting it checked out.

Thanks so much to you both for your replies and reassurance, yes I do think it's likely going to be fine and I appreciate it's not always the way for many. And yes interesting about the pain too, I have read a bit about shooting pains too, definitely different to what I have but definitely good to highlight it. Best wishes to you both. Will update after the doctor.

I agree that what you describe sounds nothing like IBC. In fact breast pain is well down the list of IBC symptoms so having breast pain alone, without any of the more common symptoms, probably precludes IBC from the list of possibilities. What it might be is a tiny cyst. I've had more cysts than I can remember. The big ones that were palpable never hurt but my smallest cysts sure did. They were never palpable and didn't show on mammograms (but they did show on ultrasounds) and they were the ones that caused pain, particularly if pressing on that area of the breast.
You don't say how old you are but with a 2 year old, I'm guessing you are quite young. As such, you probably have dense breast tissue which means a mammogram is unlikely to be very effective. Requesting an ultrasound is probably a good first step, since ultrasounds are better at seeing through dense breast tissue and are better at seeing and identifying cysts.
Or, as Peregrinelady suggested, the pain might have nothing to do with your breast and might just be muscular.

What you are describing is the exact thing I'm going through right now. Did you ever find out what it was?

I am a 70 year lady, and I would guess about two years ago or so I was in a shower and when the water hit the side of my right breast, I felt a stinging sensation which didn't last. If the shower water hit at the right direction I would feel it and it has happened over the last couple years but I didn't give it much concern until now I notice that just brushing my arm across my chest, if I get the pressure is the right place, I get a bit of a stinging sensation. I do not see any changes in my breast....I have annual mammograms and just last week visited my gynecologist and she gave me a breast exam with no issues found. I breastfed my children until they were probably three to four years old. What concerns me now is that it is just a pressure of my arm and I felt it. I know I have lived 70 years, but I still get scared especially when I live alone and have thoughts running through my head. I am a very active senior.
