Hi All - What is the procedure for removing the drain? I had surgery on Tues. I now have a drain under my left arm and have had less than 30ml of fluid for two days which I was told was when I could have the drain removed. I am planning to call the surgeons office first thing in the morning - I want this OUT :) and decided to see if I could find out what the procedure is for removal. The surgeon removed lymph nodes as I had a reaction to the dye and it did not travel so no sentinel nodes identified. So removal was done to make sure there is no cancer in any nodes. Thank you

whenever I've had drains removed, it's been in the surgeon's office, 1,2,3, they snip the sutures holding the drain tube in, and pull it out! Feels really weird, but it didn't hurt at all. Then a piece of gauze, tape, and done. The hated drain is out!😃🥳🤸♀️

I found that drain removal was uncomfortable because the area where the drains enter your body is tender. At least it's quick, and the rotten things are gone!

once my drainage was less than 30 for a 24hr period the drains were removed. The suture holding the tube is snapped, as Cali said, and the drain tube is pulled out. No pain, no blood, nothing, literally takes seconds. My surgeon took one out too early, as he was pulling the others (I had 4), and took the chance. I ended up with a seroma and another drained had to be put in. I only share this so you know what happens if it's out too early

Hi Pingpong1953 - was it done in your surgeons office - and like 10 minutes or so? Do they simply pull it out? LOL so curious . . . and yes the site is sore and so I did figure it will hurt.
