Implant Migration?
Sooooo, I'm not really sure was is normal or something I can address. I had a bilateral mastectomy - under pec - on July 3, 2018. I could not wear the surgical bra because it caused a warmth and dark pink coloring to bottom half of my breast, both sides. Without a bra, it all went away. So instead of wearing the bra 23/7 my PS said, "no bra". I am really happy with my reconstruction results and look quite good standing up - bra or no bra. My issue is when lying on my back, it's hideous. My implants go to each side. I can feel my breast bone, then there is a crater between my sternum and the edge of the implant. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? My implants are Mentor Memory Gel. Smooth Round Ultra High Profile. 800cc and 750cc. Really would like some guidance. Thank you.

I have the same under the pec reconstruction and implants as you. I do not have what you are describing. In fact, I’m self-conscious my foobs don’t flatten when I’m on my back, as in a yoga class or in the gym.
I hope you get to the bottom of this. Maybe you need some additional “pocket work”. I’m very curious to find out what your issue is.

CBK, thank you for your response. My first thoughts were pocket work, will discuss that with my PS for sure. I'm in FL until MI digs out so it'll be May. I was told I had the largest that are made (mentor anyway)....so never expected there was any room for shifting. Rt side was 50cc smaller than the left but I was told that was the largest that would fit in the pocket. I understand your thoughts when they don't flatten out but I'd like that problem. Will keep you updated.

Soon after my exchange in 2007 (like 6 weeks), my implant shifted and had to have it re-done, PS stitched the pocket to ribs (I think)....it shifted a little about 9 months later, since I hated my implants, I had my PS redo both sides. I went with small implants and mid profile and I've had these implants for 10 1/2 years - they do not really move when I'm on my back, but that may be because they are quite small. In clothes, I look good, so I guess that is the important thing. My implants are silicone by Mentor.

Yes those are large implants for sure. I understand how you would think where can these guys go? I’m in the 600 range I think.
Well I’m glad you are enjoying the sun and not freezing your foobs off like we are all up North here. 🤣
Let us know what happens when you return to MI.

Hi all, posting an update to my implant displacement. I was able to see my PS and he agreed....I did not want to have those issues. We discussed tightening up the pockets laterally with a mesh and possible fat grafting. Surgery was Sept 13. My Mentor implants were replaced with Natrelle Inspira...770cc both sides. He also put Galaflex (?) mesh in on lateral sides to help keep them stable. He said he stitched - a LOT - and it is tight, still slightly uncomfortable almost a month out. No fat grafting at this time. I was pretty happy until today. I was told I should always wear the surgical compression bra at night to sleep, actually never go without a good support bra doing the day. I awoke, took the bra off for my shower. I laid back down and fell asleep for about 15 minutes on my left side. When I awoke and started to sit up my implant had like flipped on it's side! I was shocked as this never happened with my mentors. Once I was sitting straight up it flopped back into place. I will be calling my doc to let him know...and will be trying to research that on this site. Not sure if it's a concern, a fluke or something that is expected. And the implants are under my pectoral....so not sure why it could happen. Anyway, that is my story for now. Thank you all for your feedback.

I had reconstruction on July 29th of this year after a bilateral mastectomy and have been noticing that my implant on the left side which had the cancer has been looking different and causing discomfort. I went in to see my plastic surgeon yesterday and she said it has flipped and the flat side is facing out. She wants to do another surgery to put different implants in that won't flip as easy. as well as possibly putting in a permanent stitch to hold it in place. I am still in shock about having another surgery and would love any advise.
